This study aims to examine the impact of parent–child communication on multicultural adolescents’ intention to pursue higher education and to verify the moderating role of social capital in this relationship. Data were drawn from the 2021 National Multicultural Family Survey, focusing on 1,902 adolescents aged 14 to 19, and hierarchical regression analysis was conducted using cases without missing values. The results show that parent– child communication significantly enhances adolescents’ intention to continue to higher education. Emotional closeness and open communication with parents served as crucial resources in shaping positive attitudes and aspirations toward learning. In addition, social capital demonstrated a moderating effect between parent–child communication and educational intention. Bonding social capital, in particular, amplified the positive effects of communication by strengthening academic persistence and emotional stability. In contrast, bridging social capital expanded access to educational information and opportunities, yet its effects weakened when experiences of discrimination and exclusion were present. These findings highlight the importance of considering both family communication and the qualitative characteristics of social networks in explaining the educational pathways of multicultural adolescents. By integrating parent–child communication with the types of social capital, this study provides a novel analytical framework and offers policy and practical implications for expanding educational opportunities and promoting social integration for multicultural youth.

본 연구는 다문화청소년의 고등교육 이행의지에 부모-자녀 소통이 미치는 영향 을 분석하고, 이 과정에서 사회적 자본의 조절효과를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한 다. 분석 자료는 2021년 ｢전국다문화가족실태조사｣ 원자료 중 14세에서 19세 다문 화청소년 1,902명을 대상으로 활용하였으며, 결측치가 없는 사례를 중심으로 위계 적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 부모-자녀 소통은 고등교육 이행의지를 유의미하게 높이는 요인으로 확인되었다. 부모와의 정서적 친밀감과 원활한 의사소통은 청소년이 학업에 대한 긍정적 태도와 목표를 형성하는 데 중요한 기반으로 작용하였다. 또한 사회적 자 본은 부모-자녀 소통과 고등교육 이행의지 간 관계에서 조절효과를 나타냈다. 특 히 결속형 사회자본은 부모-자녀 소통의 긍정적 효과를 강화하여 학업 지속 의지 와 정서적 안정감을 촉진하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 교량형 사회자본은 진학 정 보와 기회의 접근성을 확대할 수 있으나, 차별과 소외가 동반될 경우 효과가 약화 될 가능성이 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 다문화청소년의 교육 경로 형성 과정에서 가족 내 소통과 사회적 관계망의 질적 특성을 통합적으로 고려할 필요성을 보여준다. 본 연구는 부모-자 녀 관계와 사회적 자본을 연결하여 고등교육 이행을 설명하는 새로운 분석 틀을 제시하였으며, 다문화청소년의 교육 기회 확대와 사회통합을 위한 정책적·실천적 함의를 제공한다.
