This study focused on the adverbial dependent nouns ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ that cannot be combined with case particle. It examined how to best define the grammatical categories of ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ when they cannot be combined with case particle. The results of the discussion suggested that it would be reasonable to treat ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ as dependent nouns when combined with case particle, and as ending when they cannot be combined with case particle. First, the grammatical ambiguity of ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ was confirmed. This ambiguity was confirmed based on various perspectives from existing discussions of ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ and actual usage examples. This review demonstrates that ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ cannot be categorized into grammatical categories based on uniform criteria. Second, the grammatical realization patterns of ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ were examined. The cases in which ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ take ‘-(으)ㄴ, -는, -(으)ㄹ, -던’ as the antecedent elements and combine with case particle and cases in which they do not combine with case particle were examined, with a focus on cases in which they do not combine with case particle. This study analyzed, with examples, in which cases ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ are combined with case particles when used in sentences, and in which conditions they are not combined with case particles. The logical problem with assigning these terms to the same grammatical category despite their different associations with case particles was pointed out, and the two types of grammatical categories should be differentiated. Third, an alternative to the part-of-speech setting of ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ was suggested. The analysis results show that ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ sometimes combine with case particles depending on their meaning in the sentence, and sometimes they cannot combine with case particles depending on the preceding grammatical marker even though they have similar meanings. Based on the analysis of various example sentences in which they are used, this study proposed that when ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’ combine with case particles while taking the antecedent elements ‘-mankeum, -daero, -yang’, they should be classified as dependent nouns. In contrast, when they take the antecedent elements ‘-(으)ㄴ, -는, -(으)ㄹ, -던’ and cannot combine with case particles, they should be treated as a suffix together with the antecedent elements ‘-(으)ㄴ, -는, -(으)ㄹ, -던’.

이 연구는 격조사와 결합하지 못하는 부사성 의존명사 ‘만큼, 대로, 양’을 연구 대상으로 삼았다. ‘만큼, 대로, 양’이 격조사와 결합하지 못하는 경우에 문법범주를 어떻게 설정하는 것이 바람직한지 살핀 것이다. 논의 결과 ‘만큼, 대로, 양’이 격조사와 결합하면 의존명사로, 결합하지 못하면 어미로 처리하 는 것이 합리적이라고 제안하였다. 첫째, ‘만큼, 대로, 양’의 문법적 모호성을 확인하였다. 먼저 ‘만큼, 대로, 양’에 대한 기존 논의의 다양한 시각과 실제 용례를 바탕으로 모호성을 확인 하였다. 이것은 ‘만큼, 대로, 양’을 획일적인 기준으로 문법범주를 설정할 수 없음을 검토한 것이다. 둘째, ‘만큼, 대로, 양’의 문법적인 실현 양상을 살펴보았다. ‘만큼’, ‘대로’, ‘양’이 선행요소로 ‘-(으)ㄴ, -는, -(으)ㄹ, -던’을 취하면서 격조사와 결합하 는 경우와 그렇지 못한 경우를 살피되 격조사와 결합하지 못하는 경우에 중점을 두어 살폈다. ‘만큼’, ‘대로’, ‘양’이 문장에서 쓰일 때 어떤 경우에 격조사와 결합하는지, 그리고 어떤 조건에서는 격조사와 결합하지 못하는지 를 예문과 함께 분석해 보았다. 격조사와의 결합 여부가 다름에도 일괄하여 같은 문법범주로 설정함에 대한 논리적 문제를 지적하고, 두 유형의 문법범 주 설정이 달라져야 함을 논의하였다. 셋째, ‘만큼, 대로, 양’의 품사 설정의 대안을 제시하였다. 분석 결과 ‘만큼’, ‘대로’, ‘양’은 문장에서의 의미에 따라 격조사와 결합하기도 하고, 유사한 의미를 가졌음에도 선행하는 문법 표지에 따라 격조사와 결합하지 못하는 경우도 있다. 이들이 쓰이는 다양한 예문 분석을 토대로 본 연구에서는 ‘만 큼’, ‘대로’, ‘양’이 선행요소 ‘-(으)ㄴ, -는, -(으)ㄹ, -던’을 취하면서 격조사 와 결합하는 경우에는 이들을 의존명사로 분류하고, 선행요소 ‘-(으)ㄴ, -는, -(으)ㄹ, -던’을 취하면서 격조사와 결합하지 못하는 경우에는 선행요소 ‘- (으)ㄴ, -는, -(으)ㄹ, -던’과 한 덩어리로 보아 어미로 처리하는 것이 타당하 다고 제안하였다.
