This study aimed to explore the challenges and needs experienced by childcare center directors in counseling with Millennial and Generation Z (MZ) parents. Employing a qualitative research design, the study selected nine directors of childcare centers located in S City through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, including first-round small group interviews followed by individual in-depth interviews. The collected data were analyzed using a constant comparative method to identify key themes. The analysis revealed major challenges faced by the directors, including a lack of understanding of the unique characteristics of MZ parents, communication difficulties caused by generational perception gaps, limitations in counseling environments and institutional conditions, and insufficient professional counseling knowledge and systems. In response to these challenges, the directors expressed specific needs such as enhancing understanding of MZ parents, strengthening intergenerational communication skills, improving relationship-centered counseling systems, and establishing systemic and organizational support for counseling practices. Based on these findings, this study offers practical implications for developing effective counseling frameworks tailored to MZ parents and for enhancing the professional competencies of childcare center directors. It further underscores the need to improve the counseling environment and to construct institutional support systems to facilitate more effective communication and partnership with the emerging generation of parents.

본 연구는 MZ세대 부모와의 상담에서 어린이집 원장이 경험한 상담 과정의 특성과 그에 따 른 요구를 심층적으로 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 질적 연구 방법 중 현상학 적 접근을 적용하였으며, S시에 소재한 어린이집 원장 9명을 연구참여자로 선정하여 반구조 화된 질문지를 바탕으로 1차 소집단 면담과 2차 개별 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료 는 반복적 비교 분석을 통해 상담 현장에서 나타난 원장들의 주요 경험과 요구를 도출하였 다. 연구 결과, 원장들은 MZ세대 부모의 특성에 대한 이해 부족, 세대 간 인식 차이로 인한 소통의 난점, 상담 운영 환경의 제약, 그리고 전문성 및 체계의 미비 등 다양한 상담경험을 나타냈다. 이와 함께, MZ세대 부모에 대한 이해 증진, 세대 간 소통 역량 강화, 관계 중심의 상담 시스템 정비, 조직적․제도적 상담 지원체계 마련 등의 요구가 나타났다. 본 연구는 이 러한 결과를 바탕으로 MZ세대 부모와의 상담 체계 개선과 원장의 상담 역량 강화를 위한 실 천적 방안을 제시하고,세대 간 신뢰와 협력을 도모할 수 있는 상담 환경 및 지원 시스템 구 축의 필요성을 시사하였다.
