This study examined the impact of economic resources and gender role attitudes on the time husbands and wives spend on when an adult household member requires care. Theories concerning the division of unpaid labor based on economic resources and gender role attitudes have primarily focused on couples with preschool-aged children. Building upon these theories and previous research, this study conducted a latent profile analysis on 506 cases of husbands and wives, drawn from the 2019 Time Use Survey. The results showed that wives spent nearly twice as much time as husbands on caregiving for adults requiring long-term care and over three times as much time on housework. Profile analysis identified the following two types for both husbands and wives in terms of economic resources and gender role attitudes: Among husbands, the profiles were ʻʻlow economic resources and traditional gender role attitudesʼʼ (66.4%) ʻʻhigh economic resources and progressive gender role attitudesʼʼ (33.6%). Among wives, the profiles were ʻʻlow economic resources and traditional gender role attitudesʼʼ (75.5%) and ʻʻhigh economic resources and progressive gender role attitudesʼʼ (24.5%). The analysis of the effects of economic resources and gender role attitudes on caregiving and housework time revealed significant differences in time spent among husbands and wives, depending on their profile type. These findings are discussed in relation to their theoretical and policy implications.

본 연구는 돌봄이 필요한 성인 가구원이 있는 남편과 아내의 돌봄과 가사노동 시간에 경제적 자원과 성역할 인식 유형이 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 무급노동 분배에 대한 경제적 자원론과 성역할 인식론은 주로 미취학자녀를 둔 부부의 가사노동 과 돌봄에 집중적으로 적용되어왔다. 관련 이론과 기존 연구 및 분석적 이슈에 대한 논의를 바탕으로 본 연구는 잠재프로파일 분석을 활용하여 생활시간조사 2019년도 자료에서 남편과 아내 각각 506사례를 분석하였다. 분석 결과 아내의 장기 돌봄이 필요한 성인에 대한 돌봄 시간은 남편의 시간 보다 2배 가까이 많았고, 가사노동의 경우 3배 이상으로 나타났다. 프로파일 분석 결과 남편과 아내 모두 경제적 자원과 성역할 인식의 2개 프로파일 모형이 도출되었다 (남편 ʻʻ낮은 경제적 자원과 전통적인 성역할 인식ʼʼ (66.4%), ʻʻ높은 경제적 자원과 진보적 성역할 인식ʼʼ (33.6%), 아내 ʻʻ낮은 경제적 자원과 전통적인 성역할 인식ʼʼ (75.5%), ʻʻ높은 경제적 자원과 진보적 성역할 인식ʼʼ (24.5%)). 경제적 자원과 성역할 인식 유형이 돌봄과 가사노동 시간에 미치는 효과를 분석한 결과 남편과 아내 모두에서 유형에 따라 돌봄과 가사노동 시간이 유의미하게 다르게 나타났다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로 이론 및 정책적 함의를 논의하였다.
