This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the musical characteristics of soprano arias in the operas of 18th-century Italian composer Puccini. Focusing on La Bohème and Turandot, the research explores the structural and emotional expressions present in each work. Puccini effectively conveys complex psychological states of characters through his unique musical language, showcasing remarkable artistry in capturing subtle emotional shifts and narrative developments. The study examines the historical context and compositional style of Puccini's operas while providing a detailed comparison of the soprano arias from the two representative works. Notably, the Mimi aria from La Bohème and the Liu aria from Turandot powerfully express the themes of love's pain and insurmountable hardships, respectively, with an analysis of the musical techniques employed in these arias. Furthermore, the research reveals how Puccini's music enhances character psychology and narrative, highlighting the influence of his musical techniques on contemporary opera. The findings confirm that Puccini's works serve as vital mediums for expressing the inner worlds of characters, suggesting that this study will serve as a foundational resource for future in-depth research on Puccini's operas.

본 연구는 18세기 이탈리아 작곡가 푸치니의 오페라 소프라노 아리아의 음악적 특징을 심도 있게 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 특히 『라 보엠(La Boheme)』과 『투란도트(Turandot)』를 중심으로 각각의 작품에서 드러나는 구조적 및 감정적 표현을 탐구하였다. 푸치니는 독창적 인 음악 언어를 통해 인물의 복잡한 심리를 효과적으로 전달할 뿐 아니라, 감정의 미세한 변 화와 서사의 전개를 음악으로 형상화하는 뛰어난 예술성을 보여주었다. 본 연구에서는 푸치 니 오페라의 역사적 배경과 창작 스타일을 고찰하고, 두 대표작의 소프라노 아리아를 세부적 으로 비교하였다. 특히, 『라 보엠』의 미미 아리아와 『투란도트』의 류 아리아는 각각 사랑의 아픔과 극복할 수 없는 고난을 강렬하게 표현하며, 이들 아리아에서 나타나는 음악적 기법을 분석하였다. 또한 푸치니의 음악이 어떻게 캐릭터의 심리와 서사를 강화하는지를 밝혔으며, 그의 음악적 기법이 현대 오페라에 미친 영향을 재조명하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 푸치니의 작품이 단순한 감정 전달을 넘어 인물의 내면 세계를 표현하는 중요한 매개체임을 확인하며, 향후 푸치니 오페라에 대한 깊이 있는 연구를 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.
