This study explores the theme of the pervasive phenomenon of narcissism in contemporary society through the creative process of the dance piece Mirror. The research examines the meaning of narcissism established during the choreographic development phase and analyzes the symbolic significance of the Narcissus myth as its foundation, translating these concepts into the work. Based on this framework, the study investigates whether an artistic creation mediated by the Narcissus myth can critically reflect on modern narcissism and present the possibility of self-reflection through “self-objectification” as a means of deepening human self-awareness. The piece was realized through the organic integration of movement composition and objects, and such an integrative approach is considered to represent a viable case of choreographic methodology. The findings of this study are as follows. First, the use of structured movement and group composition clarified the delivery of the work’s theme. Second, improvisation and free composition contributed to the aesthetic expansiveness of the piece. Third, the repetition of stillness, combined with the organic incorporation of objects, heightened audience immersion. Through this research, it was confirmed that dance art can function as an artistic medium that visualizes philosophical concepts and expands the realm of thought through the creative process. It is hoped that this study will serve as a practical resource for artistic creation. However, a gap was identified between the theoretical interpretation of narcissism and the artistic methods of object expression during the creative process, which posed limitations in directly applying and realizing these concepts within the work. Nevertheless, this research aspires to make a substantive contribution to exploring new artistic possibilities, demonstrating that dance, as a nonverbal art form, can extend beyond the mere expression of movement. In addition, the purpose is to study the symbolic meaning of art and mythology and to examine the artistic and philosophical meaning realized by developing new movements and constructing one's own original dance methodology and visualizing it as a work.
