The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of career calling in the relationship between nursing students’ motivation for major selection and university life adjustment. For this study, a survey was conducted on 292 students from Jeonbuk, Busan·Gyeongnam, Daejeon·Chungnam, and Gyeonggi regions regarding their motivation for major selection, career calling, and university life adjustment. A total of 285 responses were used for the final analysis. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 27.0 and AMOS 26.0 programs. The results of the study are as follows. First, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation for major selection, career calling, and university life adjustment showed statistically significant positive correlations. Second, career calling partially mediated the relationship between intrinsic motivation for major selection and university life adjustment, and fully mediated the relationship between extrinsic motivation for major selection and university life adjustment. Third, the direct effects of intrinsic motivation for major selection and career calling on university life adjustment were significant, whereas the direct effect of extrinsic motivation for major selection on university life adjustment was not significant. Fourth, only the indirect effect through career calling was statistically significant in the relationship between extrinsic motivation for major selection and university life adjustment. Both motivation for major selection and career calling were found to influence nursing students’ university life adjustment. Therefore, to effectively support nursing students’ adjustment to university life, it is necessary to foster intrinsic motivation and strengthen career calling from middle and high school years.

본 연구의 목적은 간호대학생의 전공선택동기와 대학생활적응 간의 관계에서 진로 소명의 매개 효과를 살펴보는 것이다. 이 연구를 위해 전북, 부산·경남, 대전·충남, 경기 지역의 간호대학생 292명 을 대상으로 전공선택동기, 진로소명, 대학생활적응에 관한 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 최종 285명의 자료를 활용하였다. 수집된 데이터는 SPSS/WIN 27.0과 AMOS 26.0 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였 다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 내재적 전공선택동기와 외재적 전공선택동기, 진로소명, 대학생활적응은 유의한 정적 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 진로소명은 내재적 전공선택동기와 대학생활적응의 관계를 부분 매개하며, 외재적 전공선택동기와 대학생활적응의 관계를 완전매개하는 것으로 나타났 다. 셋째, 간호대학생의 내재적 전공선택동기와 진로소명의 대학생활적응에 대한 직접효과는 유의한 것으로 나타났으나, 외재적 전공선택동기의 대학생활적응에 대한 직접효과는 유의하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 외재적 전공선택동기가 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향에서 진로소명을 통한 간접효과 만이 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 전공선택동기와 진로소명 모두 간호대학생의 대학생활적응에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 따라서 간호대학생의 효과적인 대학생활적응을 위해서는 중·고등학교 시기부터 내재적 동기의 개발 과 진로소명을 강화하는 작업이 필요하다.
