This study analyzed the major issues and reporting trends related to elementary physical education by utilizing Big Kinds, a data-driven media analysis platform, to collect articles published in South Korean media from 2010 to 2024. The analysis targeted 18 media outlets, including five national newspapers, nine regional newspapers, and four broadcast media, based on data provided by Big Kinds as of November 1, 2024. The analysis period spanned from January 1, 2010, to November 30, 2024, divided into three five-year periods. Keywords such as “physical education” or “sports” were used for the search, with the additional condition that the articles include terms like “elementary,” “children,” or “youth” in their titles or main texts. The data underwent preprocessing, including synonym and exception handling, using the NetMiner program. Analytical methods such as TF analysis, TF analysis, and topic modeling were employed, yielding the following results: First, TF analysis revealed that keywords such as “school,” “children,” “education,” and “students” had the highest frequencies, followed by “community sports,” “management,” “competition,” “health,” and “physical fitness.” Second, topic modeling identified five key topics: “national competitions and athlete development,” “social-emotional growth through physical education,” “improving physical health through school sports,” “integration of community sports and school sports,” and “enhancement of sports facilities and infrastructure.” Third, a time-series analysis of the reporting trends showed changes in themes and discourse related to elementary physical education across the three periods. This study highlights the multidimensional roles of elementary physical education, such as promoting health, improving mental well-being, fostering social-emotional development, developing athletes, and establishing a foundation for lifelong sports participation. The findings provide a basis for formulating policy directions and strategies for the development of elementary physical education.

본 연구는 초등체육의 주요 이슈와 보도경향을 분석하고자 2010년부터 2024년까지 국내 언론에서 다룬 초등체육 관련 기사를 대상으로 빅카인즈(Big Kinds)를 활용하여 데이터를 수집하고, 토픽모델링 기법을 적용하였다. 분석 대상은 중앙지 5개, 지역지 9개, 방송사 4개 등 총 18개의 언론 매체로, 연구 수행일인 2024년 11월 1일 기준 빅 카인즈에서 제공하는 데이터를 활용하였다. 분석 기간은 2010년 1월 1일부터 2024년 11월 30일까지이며, 이를 5년 단위로 3개 시기로 구분하였다. 검색어는 ‘체육’ 또는 ‘스포츠’로 설정하고, 기사 제목 또는 본문에 ‘초등’, ‘아 동’, ‘어린이’가 포함되도록 상세검색을 실시하였다. 데이터는 넷마이너(NetMiner) 프로그램을 활용하여 유의어 및 예외어 처리 등 전처리 과정을 거쳤으며, TF 분석, 토픽모델링 기법을 적용한 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 도출할 수 있었다. 첫째, TF 분석에서는 '학교', '어린이', '교육', '학생' 등의 키워드가 높은 빈도를 보였으며, '생활체육', '운영', '대회', '건강', '체력' 등의 키워드가 뒤를 이었다. 둘째, 토픽모델링 분석을 통해 ‘전국 대회와 선수 육성’, ‘체육교육을 통한 사회 정서적 성장’, ‘학교체육을 통한 체력과 건강 증진’, ‘생활체육과 학교체육의 연계’, ‘생활체 육 시설 조성 및 인프라 강화’ 등 5개의 주요 토픽을 도출하였다. 셋째, 시기별 보도 분석 결과, 초등체육 관련 보 도의 주제와 담론이 각 시기에 따라 변화하는 양상을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 초등체육의 다차원적 역 할, 즉 건강 증진, 정신건강, 사회·정서적 발달, 선수 육성, 평생체육의 기틀 형성 등 초등체육의 다각적인 중요성 을 제언하며, 초등체육의 정책적 방향성과 발전 방안을 모색하는 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다.
