The purpose of this study is to examine the conditions for landscape perception and the modes of its poetic figuration in Baek Mu-san’s poetry, in order to explore the significance of his poetic response to the ecological crisis through the recovery of a sense of wholeness. From the beginning of his literary career, Baek Mu-san has problematized the destruction of nature and the erosion of humanity caused by industrial labor. Starting with his third poetry collection, The Time of Humans, he has continued poetic practices that reflect on humanity’s attitude toward nature and attempt to recognize and figuratively shape landscapes as part of that reflection. This study classifies landscapes into external and internal dimensions, depending on the speaker’s line of sight. Chapter 2 analyzes the social conditions under which the speaker perceives wholeness through physical natural places, while Chapter 3 focuses on the poetic strategies used to figure internal landscapes as spiritual spaces. In poems centered on external landscapes, the emphasis lies on interrelationships among living beings; in poems focused on internal landscapes, intricate relationships between linguistic elements are foregrounded. While the conditions for perceiving landscapes appear in both dimensions, their poetic representation becomes more vivid in the internal landscapes, where the density of poetic language is more pronounced. In Baek Mu-san’s poetry, the landscape functions not merely as a visual background but as an integrative space where reduced human vision and thought are restored from a holistic perspective. Landscape, therefore, is not simply a scene viewed by the human eye, but a space through which the human being strives to maintain or recover a sense of wholeness across internal and external realms. The significance of this study lies in revealing how Baek Mu-san, in response to the negative impact of industrial activity on nature, sheds light on the landscape as a poetic site for restoring the integrative relationship between humans and nature within the limited bounds of physical and mental space.

이 연구의 목적은 백무산의 시에 나타난 풍경 인식의 조건과 형상화 방식을 분석함으로써, 생태적 위기 상황에서 인간이 풍경을 통해 전체성의 감각을 회복하고자 한 시적 실천 의 의의를 살펴보는 데 있다. 백무산은 등단 초기부터 인간 노동으로 인한 생태계의 파괴 를 문제 삼았으며, 제3시집 『인간의 시간』을 기점으로 자연을 대하는 인간의 태도를 성찰 하고, 풍경을 인식하여 형상화하는 시적 실천을 이어왔다. 이 연구는 인간 시선의 방향성 을 기준으로 외부 풍경과 내면 풍경을 구분해 분석하였다. 2장에서는 화자의 시선이 외부 를 향할 때, 자연의 물리적 장소를 통해 전체성을 인식하는 사회적 조건에 주목하였고, 3장에서는 시선이 내부를 향할 때, 정신의 장소를 풍경으로 형상화하는 언어적 방식에 주목하였다. 외부 풍경의 시에서는 내용적으로 생명체 간의 상호 관계가, 내면 풍경의 시 에서는 형식적으로 언어 간의 긴밀한 관계가 두드러졌다. 풍경 인식의 조건은 외부 풍경과 내면 풍경의 시 모두에서 나타나지만, 풍경의 형상화는 시적 언어의 밀도가 높은 내면 풍경의 시에서 더욱 선명하게 드러났다. 백무산 시에서 풍경은 축소된 인간의 시야와 사유 를 전체론적 관점에서 회복하기 위한 통합적 장소로 기능한다. 즉, 풍경은 단순히 인간의 시선에 비치는 자연의 모습이 아니라, 인간이 내·외부의 공간에서 전체성의 감각을 유지 하거나 회복하는 장소이다. 이러한 분석은 백무산이 인간의 산업 활동이 자연에 미친 악영 향을 자각하고, 이에 대한 인간적 대응으로서 물리적·정신적으로 제한된 영역 안에서 전체성의 관계를 회복하고자 풍경을 시적 실천의 장소로 조명했음을 밝힌 데에 의의가 있다.
