This paper attempts to clarify the operating principles of biopolitical violence formed within poverty and patriarchy during the Korean War by interpreting Oh Jung-hee's ‘The Garden of childhood’ using Giorgio Agamben’s concepts of ‘bare life, state of exception, and potentiality’. The process of ‘Bune’ being shaved, the confinement in the concentration camp(golbang), and the deletion of death concretely illustrate the dual structure of inclusive exclusion where the sovereign power reduces existence to ‘bare life’. The ‘Yellow-eyed’ family is placed in a state of exception where legal and moral norms are suspended due to their status as refugees, leading to the normalization of acts like stealing chickens and conspiracy. Moreover, the brother's violence actualizes private sovereignty through the body, reducing the sister to ‘bare life’. The repetitive acts of stealing and self-gazing, along with vomiting by ‘Yellow-eyed’ reveal the passivity of potentiality where realization and non-realization overlap, materializing as gestures of micro- resistance emerging in the gaps where norms are disrupted. This study is significant in that it deeply sheds light on the aspects and meanings of homo sacer present in Oh Jung-hee’s novels from a biopolitical perspective and proposes new interpretative possibilities for her work.

본고는 오정희의 ｢유년의 뜰｣을 조르조 아감벤의 ‘벌거벗은 생명, 예외상태, 잠재성’ 개념을 적용해 해석함으로써, 한국전쟁 속 빈곤과 가부장제 속에서 형성된 생명정치의 구현 양상을 규명하고자 하는 시도이다. ‘부네’가 삭발당하는 과정과 수용소(골방) 감금, 소문 양산, 장례 절차 없는 죽음의 삭제 는 주권 권력이 존재를 ‘벌거벗은 생명’으로 환원시키는 포함적 배제의 이중 구조를 구체 화하여 보여 준다. ‘노랑눈이’ 가족은 피란민 신분으로 인해 공동체의 낙인 속에서 법적· 도덕적 규범이 정지된 예외상태에 놓여 있으며, 닭 도둑질과 공모 행위는 예외상태 속 비일상의 연행을 일상화한다. 아버지의 징집과 어머니의 외박으로 발생한 사적 공간의 법적 공백은 오빠의 폭력으로 채워지고, 오빠의 신체는 사적 주권화의 기제가 되어 언니를 벌거벗은 생명으로 전락시킨다. ‘노랑눈이’의 반복적 절도 및 자기 응시, 구토 행위는 실현 과 비실현이 중첩된 잠재성의 수동성을 드러내며, 규범이 중단된 틈에서 미시적 저항을 드러내는 몸짓으로 구체화된다. 이처럼 본 논의에서는 아감벤의 생명정치 이론을 오정희의 ｢유년의 뜰｣에 체계적으로 적용함으로써, 가족 내부의 사적 권력이 벌거벗은 생명을 어떻게 생산하고 통제하는지, 그 속에서 잠재성을 통한 저항의 몸짓이 어떻게 가능해지는지를 구체적으로 파악하였다. 이는 이 작품을 성장 서사와 여성주의적 관점으로 독해했던 기존 연구를 벗어나 생명정치 적 관점에서 새롭게 분석하려는 시도라는 점에서 그 의의가 있다고 하겠다.
