The National Park Resource Survey, which is conducted every five years under the Natural Parks Act, assesses the overall status of national parks, including their natural ecosystems, landscapes, and cultural and human environments. Currently, a fifth-phase survey is conducted across 22 national parks in South Korea. Although geomorphological and geological surveys have been conducted since the 1990s, the lack of standardized assessment criteria has hindered comparative analysis between parks and resources. Additionally, conflicts have arisen between the utilization of geological heritage in geoparks and the conservation principles of national parks. To address these issues, the 2021 National Park Resource Survey introduced a revised assessment system incorporating a framework that comprehensively evaluates the geomorphological and geological values of the surveyed resources. This study applied the revised assessment system to 1) evaluate the geomorphological and geological resources of Sobaeksan National Park, 2) analyze the assessment results to determine the resource distribution characteristics, and 3) establish a management and utilization strategy for each major region. The results indicated that Sobaeksan National Park contains 52 geomorphological and geological resources categorized as follows: Grade II (3.8%, 2 sites), Grade III (26.9%, 14 sites), Grade IV (53.8%, 28 sites), and Grade V (15.4%, 8 sites). The intrinsic value analysis highlights high ratings for representativeness, typicality, scale, and naturalness. Based on geographical distribution, resources were classified into northern, central, and southern regions, with the central region being particularly suitable for geoscience education and research because of its high resource density and significance. To ensure sustainable utilization and conservation of geomorphological and geological resources in Sobaeksan National Park, it is essential to adopt an adaptive management framework that allows flexible conservation strategies based on continuous monitoring. In addition, comparative studies of national parks that utilize data accumulated through park resource surveys should be conducted to enhance the effectiveness of conservation and management systems.

자연공원법에 따라 5년마다 시행되는 공원자원조사는 국립공원의 자연생태계, 경관, 문화 및 인문환경 전반을 조사하는 활동으로, 현재 22개 국립공원을 대상으로 5기 조사가 진행 중이다. 지형⋅지질자원 조사는 1990년대부터 수행되었으나, 일관된 조사 기준이 부재하여 공원 간 또는 자원 간 비교 분석이 어려웠으며, 지질공원의 지질유산 활용 개념과 국립공원의 자원 보전 개념이 상충되는 문제가 있었다. 이를 해결 하기 위해 2021년 공원자원조사부터 개정된 조사체계를 적용하여 지형⋅지질학적 가치를 종합적으로 평가할 수 있는 평가 양식을 도입하였 다. 본 연구에서는 이 조사체계를 기반으로 1) 소백산국립공원의 지형⋅지질자원 가치 평가를 수행하고, 2) 평가 결과를 분석하여 자원 분포 현황을 도출하며, 3) 권역별 관리 및 활용 전략을 수립하였다. 연구 결과, 소백산국립공원 내 지형⋅지질자원은 총 52개로, 등급별 분포는 Ⅱ등급 3.8%(2개), Ⅲ등급 26.9%(14개), Ⅳ등급 53.8%(28개), Ⅴ등급 15.4%(8개)로 나타났다. 본질적 가치 분석 결과, 대표성, 전형성, 규모, 자연성 항목에서 높은 평가를 받았다. 또한, 자원의 지리적 분포에 따라 북부, 중부, 남부권역으로 구분하였으며, 자원 분포가 풍부하고 가치가 높은 중부권역이 특히 지질교육 및 연구 활동에 적합함을 확인하였다. 추후 소백산국립공원의 지속 가능한 활용과 자원 보호 방안이 조화를 이루기 위해서는 적응형 관리체계를 도입한 유연한 관리 전략을 수립하고, 공원자원조사를 통해 축적된 데이터를 기반으로 국립공원 간 비교 연구를 수행함으로써 보존 및 관리 체계를 고도화해야 한다.
