The 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to Han Kang has brought renewed global attention to Korean literature. However, in stark contrast to the global recognition of Korean literary and cultural achievements, Korean Christian theology remains largely indifferent or passive toward the language and sensibility inherent in Korea’s indigenous literary tradition. This paper critically reflects on this disconnect and explores the potential of “theopoetics” as a framework to revitalize theological language through Korean poetry. Focusing on two major modern Korean poets‒Yoon Dongju and Kim Ji-ha‒this study analyzes the poetic structures of “confession of the inner self” and “liberation of the outer world,” respectively. Yoon’s poetic voice embodies the sensibility of confessional theology through themes of guilt, silence, and the longing for purity. In contrast, Kim Ji-ha gives voice to liberation theology by portraying the suffering and oppression of the people and the subversive image of Jesus. Both poets confront the pain and ethical crises often neglected by the institutional church and formal theology, articulating a public and practical theology through the language of poetry. This study interprets their poetry not merely as literary artifacts, but as alternative theological discourses. It asserts that literature‒far from being a tool of theology‒can serve as its vital companion, capable of expressing human suffering, enduring silence, and bearing witness to salvation. Ultimately, the paper proposes a new cultural-linguistic imagination at the intersection of Korean culture, literature, and theology‒coining the concepts of “K-Culture,” “K-Theology,” and “K-Mission.” A theology without empathy is doctrine without suffering; a theology that averts pain speaks of God without God. This paper is a theopoetic attempt to fill that absence.

2024년 한강의 노벨문학상 수상은 한국 문학의 세계문학적 위상을 재 조명하는 계기가 되었으나, 한국 그리스도교 신학은 여전히 이와 같은 문 학적 감수성과 역사적 언어에 대해서는 크게 조명하지 않고 있다. 본 논문 은 이러한 흐름을 비판적으로 진단하고, 문화를 배경으로하는 ‘시적신학 (theopoetics)’이라는 개념을 통해 한국 문학과 신학의 교차 지점을 신학적 으로 사유한다. 본 연구는 한국 현대 시문학의 두 축인 윤동주와 김지하를 각각 고백 신학(confessional theology)과 해방신학(liberation theology)의 시학으 로 해석하고 독해하며, 이들의 시가 일부 제도적 그리스도교가 외면해 온 개인과 사회의 고통, 침묵, 윤리적 책임의 장소에서 신학적 언어로 기능함 을 밝힌다. 윤동주는 죄의식, 침묵, 정결의 갈망을 통해 내면의 신학적 성 찰을 구현하며, 김지하는 민중의 고통과 전복적 예수 형상을 통해 해방의 신학을 문학적으로 형상화한다는 주장이다. 이러한 한국 국적의 두 시인 의 현대 시학은 단순한 상징 분석을 넘어서, 문학이 신학의 보완재가 아니 라 신학의 본래 언어적 기반도 될 수 있음을 입증한다. 본 논문은 ‘K-문 학’과 ‘K-신학’을 잇는 매개로서의 ‘K-선교’을 제안하며, 문화를 배경으로 한 문학작품의 감각과 시의 윤리성이 어떻게 신학의 언어를 확장하고 회 복할 수 있는지를 신학적으로 모색한다. 이는 고통을 외면한 신학이 하나 님 없는 교리가 될 수밖에 없음을 비판하며, 한국 문화를 배경으로 한 시와 신학이 상호작용하는 새로운 한국적 문화 신학의 지평을 열고자 하는 시도이다.
