This study explores how vocational counselors perceive and practice social justice advocacy counseling. Using consensual qualitative research, in-depth interviews were conducted with twelve experienced vocational counselors. From the data, four domains, twelve categories, and thirty-nine subcategories were identified. In the domain of self-awareness, eleven subcategories emerged, including motivations for becoming counselors, attitudes and competencies, and the meaning of vocational counseling. The perceptions and experiences domain revealed nine subcategories related to stereotypes about socially vulnerable clients, personal understanding of social justice, and the significance of advocacy counseling in vocational settings. The practice domain identified eleven subcategories describing the scope of practice, specific interventions, and limitations faced in advocacy counseling. Lastly, the domain of proposals for practice included eight subcategories emphasizing the need for practical research, improved education and work environments for counselors, and enhanced client support. The findings indicate that despite challenging conditions, vocational counselors maintain their professional identity and actively engage in social justice advocacy, reflecting their inherent backgrounds. Furthermore, the study discusses the practical challenges and roles counselors face within broader social structures and contexts.

본 연구는 직업상담사가 사회정의와 옹호상담을 어떻게 인식하고 실천하는지 분석하는 것을 목적으 로 한다. 본 연구를 위해 현재 직업상담 현장에서 전문성을 가지고 활동하고 있는 연구참여자 12명을 대상으로 심층면담을 통해 수집된 자료를 토대로 합의적 질적연구를 수행하였다. 이에 4개 영역, 12개 범주, 39개의 하위범주를 도출하였다. 구체적인 연구결과는 다음과 같다. ‘직업상담사로서 자기인식 영 역’에서는 ‘직업상담 시작 계기’. ‘직업상담사의 태도와 역량’, ‘직업상담의 의미’ 범주에서 총 11개의 하 위범주를 추출하였다. ‘사회정의 옹호상담에 대한 인식과 경험’ 영역에서는 ‘사회적 약자인 내담자에 대 한 고정관념’, ‘사회정의에 대한 개인적 인식’, ‘직업상담에서 사회정의 옹호상담의 의미’ 범주에서 총 9 개의 하위범주로 나타났다. ‘사회정의 옹호상담의 실천’ 영역에서는 ‘실천할 수 있는 범위’, ‘구체적 실천 과 개입’, ‘사회정의 옹호상담의 실천의 한계’ 범주에서 총 11개의 하위범주로 드러났다. 마지막으로 ‘사 회정의 옹호상담 현장 적용을 위한 제안’ 영역에서는 ‘직업상담 현장의 실용적 연구의 필요성’, ‘직업상 담사의 교육과 직무환경’, ‘내담자의 실질적 지원’ 범주에서 총 8개의 하위범주를 추출하였다. 본 연구 에서 직업상담사들은 열악한 환경에서도 직업정체성을 유지하며 사회적 약자를 위해 우리사회의 기초 가 되는 사회정의 옹호적 상담을 이미 실천하고 있었으며 이는 직업상담사의 태생적 배경과 무관하지 않다는 것을 시사한다. 아울러 사회구조와 맥락 속에서 직업상담사들이 안고 있는 현실적 문제와 사회 정의 옹호상담의 실천적 과제와 역할을 제안하였다.
