Quantum theory (or quantum mechanics) is a scientific theory that explores what exists in the quantum world beyond experience that we cannot directly observe, what laws govern it, and how they relate to the phenomena we have experienced. Because it deals with the beyond experience, there have been various interpretations of what ontological implications the mathematical tools of quantum theory have. In this regard, C. Rovelli recently proposed the relational interpretation newly. He asserts the relational characteristics of the quantum world, using the concept of physical variables and events that reveal well the relational and contextual (that is, relative) characteristics between the two physical systems. In this paper, first of all, I will examine Rovelli’s relational interpretation in detail. On the one hand, I will accept the relational perspective proposed by Rovelli positively, while on the other hand, I will critically examine the weak support for the ontological implications of the world that this relational perspective aims for, that is, relational ontology. Then, for a relational ontology with a stronger ontological meaning, I would like to propose Zhang Hwe-ik’s propensity interpretation as a complementary solution to Rovelli’s relational interpretation. Finally, I would like to propose a point of contact with Eastern thought, particularly Buddhism, at the level of raising the issue, in relation to the relational ontology with a stronger ontological meaning, which stresses the idea that the world is based on relational order.

양자 이론(혹은 양자역학)은 우리가 직접 관찰할 수 없는 경험 저편의 양자 세계에무엇이 존재하고, 그것을 지배하는 법칙은 무엇이며, 우리가 경험한 현상과는 어떤 연관성이있는지를 탐색하는 과학 이론이다. 경험 저편을 다루는 까닭에, 양자 이론의 수학적 도구들이어떤 존재론적 의미를 지니는지에 대한 해석을 놓고, 다양한 해석들이 있어 왔다. 이와 관련최근에 카를로 로벨리(C. Rovelli)는 관계적 해석을 새롭게 제안하였다. 그는 두 물리계사이에 관계적이고 맥락적인(곧 상대적인) 특성이 잘 드러나는 물리 변수 및 사건 개념을사용하여, 양자 세계의 관계적 특성을 주장하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 최근에 양자 이론에 대한해석으로 새롭게 부상하고 있는 로벨리의 관계적 해석을 자세히 살펴볼 것이다. 한편으로로벨리가 제시한 관계적 관점을 긍정적으로 받아들이면서, 다른 한편으로 이 관계적 관점이지향하는 세계에 관한 존재론적 함축, 곧 관계적 존재론과 관련하여 그 지지 근거가 미약함을비판적으로 검토할 것이다. 그런 다음 존재론적 의미가 보다 강화된 관계적 존재론을 위해, 장회익의 성향적 해석을 로벨리의 관계적 해석의 보완책으로 제안하고자 한다. 마지막으로존재론적 의미가 강화된 관계론, 곧 세계가 관계적 질서에 바탕하고 있다는 생각이 동양사상특히 불교와 만날 수 있는 접점을, 문제 제기 수준에서 제안해 보고자 한다.
