This paper aims to examine the political practicality of the concept of remembrance presented in Benjamin's later philosophy of history. First, the meaning of the concept of remembrance, Eingedenken is examined in relation to Benjamin's two critical issues, historical materialism and theology. From the perspective of historical materialism, he presents the concept of Eingedenken as a counterpoint to positivistic historicism and the concept of progress based on technological determinism and quantitative accumulation, and defines history as a history of oppression and of the struggles of the oppressed. In this concept of history, the oppressed past is presented as a major task of reflection. Therefore, Benjamin reveals that reflection on the temporality is a prerequisite for this historical awareness and introduces theology into materialistic histor y. Unlike contemporary Marxism, for Benjamin, the struggle of the oppressed is closely related to the time of the ‘present toward the past’ rather than the future. In examining this connection, we reveal that reflecting on the memories and daily lives of the oppressed is at the core of the political practice of the concept of remembrance. Finally, keeping in mind the criticisms surrounding the political practice of Benjamin's concept of memory, we examine how his politics of remembrance, which emphasizes the ‘past’, is related to the new society that the oppressed will achieve. In the process, we examine his politics of remembrance in relation to the ‘politics of memory’ following massacres that occurred in the 20th century and reveal the meaning of political practice in the concept of memory.

이 논문은 벤야민 후기 역사철학에서 제시되는 기억 개념의 정치적 실천성 문제를고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 우선 역사철학에서 제시되는 기억, 즉 회억 개념의 의미를 벤야민의두 가지 문제의식인 역사유물론과 신학의 연관에서 살펴본다. 역사유물론의 관점에서벤야민은 실증주의적 역사주의와 기술 결정론 및 양적 축적에 기반한 당대의 진보 개념에 맞서회억 개념을 제시하면서, 역사를 억압의 역사이자 억압받은 이들의 투쟁의 역사로 규정한다. 이러한 역사 개념에서는 억압된 과거가 주요한 성찰 과제로 제시된다. 따라서 벤야민은시간성에 대한 성찰이 역사 인식의 전제조건임을 밝히는데, 이러한 문제의식에서 유물론적역사에 신학을 도입한다. 당대의 맑스주의와 달리 벤야민에게 억압받은 이들의 투쟁은 미래가아니라 ‘과거를 향한 현재’라는 시간과 긴밀하게 연관된다. 이러한 연관을 고찰하면서 우리는억압받은 이들의 기억과 일상을 성찰하는 것이 회억 개념의 정치적 실천성의 핵심에 있음을확인한다. 마지막으로 벤야민의 기억 개념의 정치적 실천성을 둘러싼 비판들을 염두에 두고그의 과거에 방점을 둔 기억의 정치가 억압받은 이들이 쟁취할 새로운 사회와 어떻게연관되는지 살펴본다. 이 과정에서 우리는 벤야민의 기억의 정치를 20세기에 일어난 학살이후의 ‘기억의 정치’와 연관해 검토함으로써, 그의 기억 개념에 담긴 정치적 실천성의 의미를밝히고자 한다.
