This study was initiated in response to the psychosocial issues related to cultural adaptation and identity formation that arise with the increase in the recruitment of international students. Specifically, it analyzes the effects of self-expression and authenticity on international students’ identity formation on social media, considering the moderating role of social support. The study sample consisted of 203 participants, including 175 female students and 28 male students aged 20 to 29, with data collected via surveys. The results showed that the influence of self-expression on identity formation varied depending on the level of social support, confirming the significant moderating role of social support in the identity formation process of international students. On the other hand, authenticity was found to have a negative effect on identity formation, and social support did not moderate this relationship. Notably, higher levels of authenticity were associated with lower levels of identity formation, which relates to self-expression in social media environments. These findings contrast with existing theories, suggesting the need for further discussion. This study highlights the importance of social support in the self-expression process of international students and presents theoretical and practical implications for supporting their identity formation.

본 연구는 외국인 유학생 유치의 확대에 따라 나타나는 문화 적응 및 자아정체감 형성과 관련된 심리⋅사회적 문제에 주 목하여 시작되었다. 특히, 사회적 지지 수준에 따라 소셜미디어에서 자기표현과 진실성이 유학생의 자아정체감에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 이들 간의 관계에서 사회적 지지가 미치는 조절효과를 검증하였다. 연구 대상은 20세∼29세의 여학생 175명, 남학생 28명 등 총 203명으로 설문을 통해 데이터를 수집하였다. 분석 결과, 자기표현이 자아정체감에 미치는 영향은 사회적 지지 수준에 따라 달라지며, 유학생의 자아정체성 형성 과정에서 사회적 지지가 중요한 조절 역할을 한다 는 것을 확인하였다. 한편, 진실성은 자아정체감에 부()적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 이 관계에서 사회적 지지는 조절효과를 보 이지 않았다. 진실성이 높을수록 자아정체감 수준이 낮아지는 경향을 보였으며, 이는 소셜미디어 환경에서의 자기표현과 관련이 있다. 이러한 결과는 기존 이론과 상반되는 부분이 있어 이에 대한 추가 논의가 필요하다. 본 연구는 유학생의 자기표현 과정에서 사회적 지지의 중요성을 강조하며, 이에 대한 이론적 및 실무적 함의를 제시한다.
