In this study, disaster safety education was conducted for fifth grade elementary school students based on Novel Engineering. Novel Engineering was applied as a teaching model to realize experience- and practice- oriented safety education in the 2022 revised curriculum, and the class was designed so that students could indirectly experience disaster situations and develop the power to solve problems caused by disaster situations. Through class observation, the teacher was able to discover four significant changes: reduced aversion to reading books, active class attitude, application of what was learned in other classes, and learning about earthquake prevention and evacuation methods. Additionally, through this class, the children became aware of the importance of structures by recognizing that the design of buildings to prevent disasters can be directly related to our lives.

본 연구에서는 노벨 엔지니어링(Novel Engineering)을 기반으로 초등학교 5학년 학생들을 대상으로 재난안전 교육을 진행하였다. 2022 개정 교육과정에 반영된 체험·실습 중심의 안전교육 실현을 위한 수업 모형으로써 노 벨 엔지니어링을 적용하였으며, 학생들이 재난 상황을 간접 경험하고 재난 상황으로 인한 문제를 해결하는 힘을 기를 수 있도록 수업을 설계하였다. 교사는 수업 관찰을 통해서 책 읽기에 대한 거부감 감소, 적극적인 수업 태 도, 높은 수업 집중력과 문제해결력, 자연스러운 학습 목표 달성이라는 4가지 유의미한 아이들의 변화를 발견할 수 있었다. 또한 이 수업을 통해서 아이들은 재난 발생 예방을 위한 건축물의 설계가 우리 생명과 직결될 수 있 다는 것을 인식함으로써 구조물의 중요성을 알게 되는 계기가 되었다.
