This study aims to develop new design concepts by focusing on the linear formative elements of human muscles and applying the aesthetic qualities of these lines to athleisure wear, which demands a wide range of movements. The research methodology consists of a literature review, case studies, and design-based practice. First, a literature review was conducted on the concept of ‘line’ as a formative element, the structure of human muscles, and the characteristics of athleisure wear, based on academic articles. Subsequently, a case study was carried out on selected design images from three out of ten pre-identified athleisure brands. The cases were analyzed in terms of design features, product types, and visual motifs, examining how the linear aesthetics of human muscles were embodied and identifying their aesthetic values. Based on the literature review and case studies, 13 major skeletal muscles and eight types of linear expressions were selected as design motifs. These were then applied to create six athleisure garments, including track jackets, anoraks, bodysuits, sweatshirts, and pants. The design development process for each piece was described, offering insight into how the linear beauty of human muscles was translated into fashion form. This study explored the formative potential of human muscles and demonstrated its application to garment design, specifically in the context of athleisure fashion. It is significant in that it proposed a novel approach to fashion design and underscored the potential for a contemporary reinterpretation of the human body’s muscular form through the lens of athleisure wear. Future studies are expected to further explore the aesthetic value of human musculature in creative fashion development.

본 연구는 인체 근육이 가진 조형적 요소 중 선에 주목하여 각 근육의 선적 조형미를 분석하고, 이를 다양 한 움직임이 요구되는 애슬레저 웨어에 적용함으로써 새로운 디자인 개발을 시도하는 데 목적을 두었다. 본 연구의 연구 방법은 문헌 연구와 사례 연구, 작품 개발 연구의 세 가지 방법을 통해 진행되었다. 우선 조형 요소 중 하나인 선과 인체 근육, 애슬레저 웨어에 대해 관련 전문 서적 및 학술 논문, 기사 등의 자료를 통해 문헌 연구를 진행하고, 선행 연구에서 수집한 10개의 애슬레저 웨어 브랜드 중 3개의 브랜드에서 수집 및 선정된 사례를 대상으로 사례 연구를 진행하였다. 브랜드별 사례는 디자인 특징, 제품의 유형, 모티브 등으로 구분하여 인체 근육의 선적 조형미가 적용된 양상을 분석하고 미적 가치를 도출하였다. 이를 기반으로 주요 골격근 13개와 선의 조형미 8가지를 모티브로 채택하여 애슬레저 웨어의 대표 제품인 트랙 재킷, 아노락, 보디 슈트, 스웨트 셔츠, 팬츠 등으로 구성된 총 6점의 작품을 설계 및 디자인하였다. 각 작품의 제작 의도와 방법을 기술함으로써 인체 근육의 선적 조형미를 응용한 작품의 전개 과정과 해설을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 인체 근육의 조형적 가치를 파악하고, 이를 의복 구성의 과정에 적용함으로써 애슬레저 웨어 디자인에 활용 한 작품 개발 연구이다. 이는 새로운 패션 디자인 개발의 방법을 탐구하였다는 점, 나아가 인체 근육을 활용 한 패션 디자인이 애슬레저 웨어의 특성과 융합하여 현대적으로 해석될 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다는 점 에서 의의를 가진다. 이에 후속 연구를 통해 인체 근육이 가지고 있는 미적 가치를 작품 개발에 적용하는 것을 기대하는 바이다.
