This study examined moderating effects of geographic accessibility to digital education services on the relationship between digital device use and depressive symptoms among older adults. Utilizing secondary data from the 2023 National Survey of Older Koreans conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the analysis was based on a sample of 9,875 older adults who provided complete responses to all key variables. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression were employed to address research questions. Moderation analysis was conducted using PROCESS Macro Model 1 (Hayes, 2018). Findings of this study are as follows. First, digital device use was found to have a statistically significant negative association with depressive symptoms, suggesting that lower levels of digital engagement were associated with increased depression among older adults. Second, the moderating effect of geographical accessibility to digital education services was statistically significant, with; greater accessibility buffering an adverse impact of limited digital device use on depression. These results indicate that enhancing physical access to digital education services might mitigate mental health risks associated with digital exclusion in later life. Based on these findings, this study discussed policy and practice implications for promoting digital inclusion and addressing mental health disparities among the elderly population.

본 연구는 노인의 디지털 기기 활용와 우울의 관계를 디지털교육서비스 지리적 접근성이 조절하는지를 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서 설정한 주요 연구 문제를 해결하기 위하여 보건복지부에서 실시한 2023년 노인 실태조사 2차 자료를 활용하였으며, 주요 변수에 모두 응답한 노인 9,875명을 대상으로 분석하였다. 본 연 구를 위해 기술통계, 상관관계, 위계적 다중회귀분석을 실시하였으며 조절효과 검증을 위해 Hayes(2018) 의 PROCESS Macro Model 1을 활용하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인의 디지털 기기 활용이 우울에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 디지털 기기 활용 수준이 낮을수록 우울이 증가하는 것을 의미한다. 둘째, 디지털 기기 활용 수준이 낮을수록 우울이 증가하는 관계에서 디지털교육 서비스 지리적 접근성이 좋을수록 이들의 관계를 완화하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 디지털교육서비스 지리적 접근성이 좋으면 낮은 디지털 기기 활용 수준으로 인한 우울을 예방할 수 있는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 노인의 디지털 기기 활용 능력 향상과 우울을 감소시키기 위한 방안, 디지털교육서비스 지리적 접근성을 확보하기 위한 사회복지적 함의를 제언하였다.
