This study analyzes the “root-seeking narrative” of multicultural grandchildren as depicted in the EBS program Here Comes My Grandchild, and explores new possibilities for family narratives in the multicultural era. The “root-seeking narrative” in Here Comes My Grandchild is multidimensionally structured around three major stages: restoration of blood ties through grandparent-grandchild relationships, cultural root experience through homeland cultural activities, and identity integration through the establishment of self. First, in the process of restoring blood ties through grandparent-grandchild relationships, the grandchildren reconstruct their blood bonds through direct physical and emotional interactions with their grandparents, thereby reinforcing their bodily sense of familyhood and roots. Second, in the process of experiencing cultural roots through homeland activities, the grandchildren engage in tangible experiences such as visiting traditional markets, preparing regional foods, wearing hanbok, and living in hanok houses. Through these activities, they physically and sensorially internalize Korean culture and integrate it into their sense of identity. Third, in the process of establishing self through identity integration, the grandchildren actively embrace their multicultural backgrounds, affirming a multifaceted self, and come to perceive Korea not merely as a place of ancestral origin but as “another homeland.” This study reveals that Here Comes My Grandchild presents a “root-seeking narrative” that goes beyond simple bloodline restoration or cultural nostalgia, illustrating how multicultural generations reconstruct and establish their composite identities. It offers a new analytical framework for understanding family narratives and identity construction in the context of Korea's transition into a multicultural society.

본 연구는 EBS <왔다! 내 손주>를 대상으로 다문화가정 손주들의 ‘뿌리 찾기 서사’가 어떠한 과정을 통해 전개되는지를 분석하고, 이를 통해 다문화 시대 가족 서사의 새로운 가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다. EBS <왔다! 내 손주>에 나타난 ‘뿌리 찾기 서사’는 조손 관계 복원, 모국 문화 체험, 정체성 통합이라는 세 가지 주요 단계를 중심으로 입체적으로 구성되어 있다. 첫째, 조손 관계를 통한 혈연적 뿌리 복원 과정에서는 손주들이 조부모와의 직접적인 신체적·정서적 교류를 통해 혈연적 유대를 재구성하고, 가족성과 뿌리 에 대한 신체적 감각을 강화하는 양상이 나타난다. 둘째, 모국 문화 체험을 통한 문화적 뿌리 체감 과정에서는 손주들이 전통시장 방문, 지역 음식 조리, 한복 착용, 한옥 생활과 같은 구체적 활동을 통해 모국 문화를 신체적·감각적으로 체득하고, 이를 자신의 정체성 일부로 통합해 가는 과정을 보여준다. 셋째, 정체성 통합을 통한 자아 확립 과정에서는 손주들이 복합적 문화 배경을 적극적으로 수용하면서 다문화적 자아를 확립하고, 모국을 ‘또 다른 고향’으로 인식하는 정체 성 재구성의 양상을 드러낸다. 본 연구는 EBS <왔다! 내 손주>가 단순한 혈연 회귀나 문화 향수를 넘어, 다문화 세대가 복합적 정체성을 재구성하고 확립해 나가는 ‘뿌리 찾기 서사’를 제시하고 있음을 밝혔다. 이는 다문화 사회로 이행하는 한국 사회의 가족성과 정체성 서사를 이해하는 데 새로운 분석 틀을 제공한다는 점에서 의의를 가진다.
