The purpose of this study is to examine the occurrence situation of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement and its memories and commemorative aspects in the history of the Korean Independence Movement leading to the Donghak Peasant War, the March 1st Movement, and the Gwangju Student Independence Movement. As a research method for this, in the process of interpreting literature and data related to the Gwangju Student Independence Movement, a process was taken to capture the spirit of anti-Japanese for national liberation and independence of young people and students who confronted the deception and violence of colonial power. The contents of this study identified the characteristics of the anti-Japanese independence movement centered on students following discussions on the origin, development, spread, and scale of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement. In addition, through a review of the 95th Anniversary of Student Independence Movement presented by the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, the educational aspects of the student independence movement at the school site were discussed. The results of this study will contribute to remembering and commemorating the spirit of the Korean independence movement after the Donghak Peasant War through precise discussions on the Gwangju Student Independence Movement, which launched national liberation and independence against the deception and violence of colonial power.

이 연구의 목적은 동학농민전쟁, 3·1운동, 광주학생운동으로 이어 지는 한국독립운동사 장면에서, 광주학생운동의 발생 상황과 이에 대 한 기억 및 기념 양상을 검토하는 데 있다. 이에 대한 연구 방법으로 는, 광주학생운동 관련 문헌 및 자료를 확보 해석하는 작업을 통해, 식 민권력의 기만과 폭력에 맞섰던 청년·학도의 민족 해방과 독립을 위한 항일 정신을 포착하는 과제를 수행하였다. 이 연구의 내용은, 광주학생운동의 발단, 전개, 확산, 규모 등에 대 한 논의에 이어 학생들이 중심이 된 항일 독립운동의 성격을 규명하였 다. 그리고 대구광역시교육청에서 제시한 제95주년 학생독립운동기념 일 교육자료에 대한 검토를 통해 학교현장의 학생독립운동에 대한 교 육 양상을 비판적으로 논의하였다. 이 연구의 결과는, 식민권력의 기만과 폭력에 맞서 민족의 해방과 독 립에 나섰던 광주학생운동에 대한 정밀 논의를 통해, 동학농민전쟁 이 래의 한국독립운동의 정신을 기억하고 기념하는 일에 기여할 것이다.
