Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing society, industry, and education worldwide, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of knowledge-based work. In education, AI supports teacher preparation, automated grading, and personalized student learning, contributing to a transformation in educational methods and practices. However, student perceptions of AI in education vary depending on various factors including academic major, language ability, cultural background, and societal attitudes toward technology and AI acceptance. This study compares survey results about AI perceptions gathered from 167 students – 135 Korean and 32 international students - attending universities in South Korea. The results reveal several distinct differences in AI confidence, usage, and attitudes between the two groups. Most notably, international students reported more AI self-knowledge but lower participation in AI-related coursework, whereas Korean students reported over-reliance on AI as a top concern. Additionally, while Koreans learned and used AI primarily in Korean, international students relied more on English, which was also reflected in the variety and amount of different AI tools they used. These findings provide important implications for understanding the diversity of AI acceptance and access based on differing student backgrounds. As such, they may serve as foundational data for effective policy development and educational strategies for integrating and applying AI in Korean higher education, particularly in globally-oriented (glocal) universities.

인공지능(AI)은 전 세계적으로 사회, 산업, 교육을 혁신하고 있으며, 지식 기반 업무의 정확성과 효율성을 향상 시키고 있다. 교육 분야에서는 AI가 교사 준비, 자동 채점, 학생 맞춤형 학습을 지원함으로써 교육 방법과 실천에 변 화를 가져오고 있다. 그러나 교육에서 AI에 대한 학생들의 인식은 전공, 언어 능력, 문화적 배경, 기술과 AI 수용에 대한 사회적 태도 등 다양한 요인에 따라 다르다. 본 연구는 대한민국 대학에 재학 중인 167명의 학생(한국인 135명, 외국인 유학생 32명)을 대상으로 AI에 대한 인식 조사를 실시하여 비교하였다. 그 결과, 두 집단 간에는 AI에 대한 자 신감, 활용도, 태도에서 몇 가지 뚜렷한 차이가 나타났다. 특히, 유학생들은 AI에 대한 자가 지식은 더 많다고 느끼지 만, AI 관련 수업 참여율은 더 낮았고, 반면 한국인 학생들은 AI에 대한 과도한 의존을 주요 문제로 지적하였다. 또한 한국인은 주로 한글로 AI를 배우고 활용한 반면, 유학생들은 영어에 더 많이 의존했으며, 이는 그들이 사용하는 AI 도구의 종류와 양에서도 반영되었다. 이러한 결과는 학생 배경에 따라 달라지는 AI 수용성과 접근성의 다양성을 이해 하는 데 중요한 시사점을 제공한다. 따라서 특히 글로벌 지향(glocal)의 대학을 포함한 한국 고등교육에서 AI를 통합하 고 적용하기 위한 효과적인 정책 개발과 교육 전략 수립의 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있다.
