Once limited to scientific curiosity, companion animal cloning has now become a commercial technology that reflects human emotional needs and consumer-driven culture. This study critically explores the ethical and theological challenges of pet cloning from the perspectives of Christian ethics and Christian social welfare. Cloning is not just a scientific advancement. It represents the commodification of life shaped by emotional longing and commercial interests. When cloning is used to avoid grief or recreate the past, it can damage respect for life and weaken the moral responsibility of care. Christian ethics teaches that all life is created by God and has inherent dignity within the divine order. This study, grounded in the theology of Imago Dei and stewardship, examines how cloning reduces life to a replicable object. It also shows how cloning may violate animal rights and justify suffering while promoting unexamined human-centered desires. This issue is more than technical. It raises deep moral and spiritual concerns. In response, this paper proposes six directions for Christian social welfare practice. First, promote bioethics education that affirms life and creation. Second, support legal and policy reforms to regulate cloning. Third, encourage ecological faith through Green Church efforts and local care networks. Fourth, offer grief care programs rooted in Christian belief to support healthy mourning. Fifth, promote pet adoption as a life-affirming alternative. Sixth, create Christian bioethics guidelines and build international partnerships to defend life and animal welfare.

한때 과학적 호기심의 영역에 머물렀던 반려동물 복제가 최근에는 상업적 기술로 정착하면서 인간의 정서적 욕구와 소비문화가 결합하 고 있다. 본 연구는 최근 상업화되고 있는 반려동물 복제 기술을 기독 교 윤리와 기독교 사회복지 실천의 관점에서 비판적으로 고찰하고 이 에 대한 신학적 성찰과 사회복지적 대응 방안을 제시했다. 반려동물 복제는 단순한 생명공학 기술의 진보를 넘어 인간의 감정적 욕망과 상업적 이해가 결합된 생명 도구화의 대표적 사례로 볼 수 있다. 특히 상실의 슬픔을 회피하거나 과거를 반복하려는 정서적 요구가 복제 기 술과 맞물릴 때 생명에 대한 경외심과 책임 있는 돌봄의 윤리가 심각하 게 훼손될 수 있다. 기독교 윤리는 모든 생명이 하나님의 창조 질서 안에서 고유한 존엄성을 지닌 피조물임을 강조한다. 본 연구는 ‘Imago Dei’ 사상과 청지기 신학에 기반하여 생명을 반복 재생이 가능한 대상 으로 전락시키는 복제 기술이 신학적으로 어떠한 문제를 지니는지를 분석하였다. 아울러 반려동물 복제가 동물의 생명권을 침해하고 동물 이 겪는 고통을 정당화하며 기술에 대한 비판적 성찰 없이 인간 중심의 욕망을 정당화하는 경향을 드러낸다는 점에서 이는 단지 기술적 문제 를 넘어 윤리적·신학적 위기를 초래하는 행위임을 밝혔다. 이에 본 논문은 기독교 사회복지가 감당해야 할 신앙적·사회적 책임을 구체적으로 제안하였다. 첫째, 생명 존중과 창조 질서 회복을 중심으로 한 생명윤리 교육의 강화, 둘째, 복제 기술의 오용을 방지하 기 위한 법적·정책적 규제와 옹호 활동, 셋째, 생태 신앙과 책임 있는 돌봄을 실천하는 그린 처치(green church) 운동과 지역사회 돌봄 네트워크의 구축, 넷째, 반려동물 상실을 신앙적으로 극복할 수 있도록 돕는 애도 돌봄(grief care) 프로그램의 정착, 다섯째, 유기동 물 입양과 생명문화 확산을 통한 대안 제시, 여섯째, 기독교 생명윤리 지침 개발과 국제적 연대의 필요성을 제안하였다.
