‘Being Christian’ is integral to all aspects of Christian life and death. Christian’s life should embody the principles of discipleship, and the death as a disciple should reflect this commitment. In light of the growing interest in autobiographies among the elderly, this paper examines the classic autobiography of Augustine’s Confessions, urging it to transcend self-glorification and instead reflect the true essence of being Christian. By interpreting Confessions as ‘narrative of narrative transformation,’ this paper emphasizes how Augustine’s life was reshaped in accordance with Jesus narrative. This paper undertakes the task of understanding autobiography through the lens of the narrative ethics in Confessions, viewing it as a manifestation of being Christian. Additionally, it suggests an expanded role for oral autobiography in an aging society. (1) In reflecting on life, Christians should not focus on self-glorification or the construction of monuments to themselves, but rather strive to realize the ‘ars vivendi’ which embodies forgiveness and reconciliation as disciples of Jesus Christ. (2) Christians must also actively engage with considerations of death and death ethics, embracing ‘ars moriendi’ rooted in faith and the hope of resurrection.

‘그리스도인다움’은 그리스도인의 삶과 죽음의 모든 영역에서 요청 된다. 그리스도인의 삶은 제자도의 구현이어야 하고 제자로서의 죽음 을 구현해야 마땅하다. 이러한 맥락에서, 노인층에서 ‘구술자서전’에 대한 관심이 커지고 있는 현상에 착안하여 자기미화의 자서전을 넘어 서 그리스도인다움을 구현하기 위해 자서전의 고전, 아우구스티누스 의 『고백록』에 길을 묻는다. 『고백록』을 ‘내러티브 전환의 내러티브’ 로 읽어내면서, 아우구스티누스가 예수 내러티브를 따라 삶을 변화시 킨 사실에 주목한다. 나아가, 『고백록』의 내러티브 윤리에 비춰본 구술자서전의 과제를 그리스도인다움의 구현으로 상정하고, 초고령사회에서의 구술자서전 을 위한 지평의 확장을 제언한다. (1) 삶의 회고에서, 과거의 미화 혹은 자기 기념비 세우기에 흐를 것이 아니라 예수 그리스도의 제자로 서 용서와 화해를 실천하는 ‘아르스 비벤디’를 구현해야 한다. (2) 죽음준비와 죽음윤리에 대한 관심을 포함시켜 부활소망의 신앙에 기 초한 ‘아르스 모리엔디’로 나아가야 한다. 그리고 구술자서전이 지닌 삶의 회고와 존중에 대한 기능을 확장시켜 죽음준비를 위한 그리스도 인다움의 성찰로 나아가야 한다.
