Nonsan is a region with a deep history and has many historical and cultural sites. Despite the value and importance of Nonsan, which has brilliant cultural heritage, including UNESCO World Heritage Site, the historical fact that is buried is the Donghak Peasant Revolution. Although Nonsan is an important historical area because of the formation of the Donghak Peasant Army command center and the battle took place, research has not been conducted properly. Currently, no site has been designated as a historical site. The Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Foundation's website shows related regions across the country. It introduces a total of 376 places, but Nonsan has six. However, the contents are poor both qualitatively and quantitatively. First, this article aims to correct the explanation of the related relics of Nonsan presented by the Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Foundation and to examine the location, historical meaning, and value of important Donghak Peasant Revolution sites in the Nonsan area based on recent research. Second, I would like to introduce the projects that have been in progress at the Nonsan Donghak Peasant Revolution Succession Project Organization, and to present the contents of my thoughts on ways to revitalize them, such as preserving and promoting historical sites, and transmitting values. This has an important meaning not only in that it has a three-dimensional view of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and discovering the local history of Nonsan, but also in that it can change the perspective from the Donghak Peasant Revolution centered on Honam. This article summarizes of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in the Nonsan area and briefly summarizes the historical value and meaning of each site in the history of the Donghak Peasant Revolution. In addition, the project and future tasks were presented on how to utilize the site. By informing the importance of the region called Nonsan in the Donghak Peasant Revolution, it is possible to instill pride and affection in the local people and to fully utilize it as a tourism resource. In order for the historical fact of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Nonsan to reach people familiar and interesting, it is necessary to develop independent contents and operate programs. I think history should be familiar to everyday life. The more you live in the region, the more so you are, and it is directly connected to the identity of the region. The attempt to break down the barrier of indifference by the inauguration of the Nonsan Donghak Peasant Revolution Succession Project in 2019 is also very important for the development of the local community. The help of the Nonsan Cultural Center, including Nonsan City Hall, is urgently needed.

논산은 역사가 깊은 지역이고 그만큼 역사문화유적이 많은 곳이다. 세계문화유산을 비롯하여 찬란한 문화유산을 간직한 논산의 가치와 중 요성에도 불구하고 묻혀 있는 역사적 사실이 동학농민혁명이다. 논산 은 호서‧호남 연합 동학농민군 대지휘소가 결성된 곳이자 전투가 벌어 졌던 곳이기에 중요한 역사적 지역임에도 연구가 제대로 이루어지지 못했다. 현재 한 곳도 유적지로 지정되지 않았다. 동학농민혁명기념재단 홈페이지에는 전국의 관련 지역이 제시되어 있다. 모두 376곳을 소개하고 있는데, 논산은 6곳이다. 그러나 질적으로나 양적으 로나 내용이 부실하다. 이 글은 첫째, 동학농민혁명기념재단에서 제시된 논 산의 관련 유적 설명을 바로 잡고, 최근의 연구를 토대로 논산 지역의 중요 동학농민혁명 유적지 위치, 역사적 의미와 가치를 살펴보고자 한다. 둘째, 논산동학농민혁명 계승사업회에서 그동안 진행되어 온 사업을 소개하고, 유적지의 보존과 홍보, 가치의 전승 등 활성화 방안에 대해 고민한 내용을 제시하고자 한다. 이는 동학농민혁명을 입체적으로 조감하고 논산의 지역 사를 발굴한다는 의미뿐만 아니라 호남 중심의 동학농민혁명으로부터 시선 을 달리할 수 있다는 점에서도 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 이글은 논산 지역의 동학농민혁명 유적지를 정리하고, 각 유적지가 동 학농민혁명사에서 가지는 역사적 가치와 의미 간략히 정리했다. 그리고 유적지의 활용 방안에 대해 현재 진행하고 있는 사업과 앞으로의 과제를 제시했다. 동학농민혁명에 있어 논산이라는 지역이 가지는 중요성을 알림으로써 지역민에게도 자긍심과 애향심을 심어줄 수 있으며 관광자원으 로도 충분히 활용할 수 있다. 논산의 동학농민혁명이라는 역사적 사실이 사람들에게 친숙하고 흥미롭게 다가가기 위해서는 독자적인 콘텐츠의 개 발과 프로그램의 운영이 무엇보다도 필요하다. 역사는 일상으로 들어와 친숙하게 접할 수 있어야 한다고 본다. 지역사 일수록 더욱 그러하며, 지역의 정체성과 직결된다. 2019년 논산동학농민 혁명 계승사업회가 발족해 무관심의 장벽을 허물려는 시도는 지역사회의 발전을 위해서도 매우 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 논산시청을 비롯하여 논산 문화원의 도움이 절실하다.
