This study aims to propose educational pathways for academic advancement and employment for Koryo-in adolescents who have entered Korea mid-way through their schooling and are currently enrolled in high schools located in areas with high concentrations of Koryo-in residents. The study is based on a fact-finding survey conducted in two phases—one with 80 items across six areas in November 2024, and another with 86 items in March 2025—using individual interviews and self-administered questionnaires. According to the results, the majority of the students held Kazakhstani nationality, followed by those from Russia and Uzbekistan. Most students migrated during the secondary education stage, with a significant portion also arriving in upper elementary school grades (in School A), and during high school years (in School B). These students were generally 2 to 3 years older than the typical age for their respective grades in the Korean school system, and discontinuities were observed between their grade levels before and after immigration. Students who immigrated during upper elementary or secondary education stages tended to experience difficulties in completing life-course learning tasks after migration. This seems to be a significant factor contributing to differences in post-middle school pathways, such as high school transitions. Korean language proficiency and family economic status appeared to influence whether students enrolled in mainstream or alternative schools. Those with limited Korean proficiency often chose alternative school paths as an option. Educational programs for academic advancement and employment for mid-arrival Koryo-in adolescents must begin with the establishment of an educational ecosystem that respects and acknowledges the multicultural characteristics embedded in their life worlds, as a matter of human rights. Furthermore, a comprehensive innovation of the educational system is required to ensure that all mid-arrival adolescents, as youth citizens facing a time of civilizational transition, have access to learning that fosters essential humanistic competencies for the future society. Educational support for their academic and career paths must be developed on this foundation.

본 논문은 고려인 동포 집중 거주 지역의 고등 과정 학교에 재학 중인 고려인 동포 중도 입국 청소년에 관한 실태조사를 바탕으로 이들을 위한 진학·취업 교육의 방향을 제안해 보고자 한다. 실태조사는 6개 영역 1차 80문항, 2차 86개 문항 으로 2024년 11월과 2025년 3월에 개별 면담 방식과 직접 작성 방식으로 이루어 졌다. 조사 결과에 의하면, 카자흐스탄 국적이 가장 많았고 러시아, 우즈베키스탄, 카 자흐스탄 국적이 다수를 이루었다. 이들의 이주 시기는 학습 과정으로 중등 과정 시기에 가장 많이 이주하였다. A학교의 경우는 초등 고학년 시기 이주가 그 다음 으로 많았고 B학교의 경우는 고등 과정 시기가 많았다. 한국 학교생활은 한국의 일반 학령보다 2~3세 많은 경향을 보였으며 이주 전 학년과 이주 후 학년 사이에 불연속성도 나타났다. 초등 고학년 및 중등 과정에서 중도 입국이 이루어지는 경우 이주 후 생애과정 학습 과업을 수행할 때 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 이것은 의무교육 과정인 중학교 졸업 이후 고등 과정 진로에서 차이를 가져오는 중요한 요인이라고 추정된 다. 한국어 역량과 가정 경제력은 중도 입국 청소년의 일반 학교 진학과 대안학교 진학에 영향을 미친 것으로 보인다. 한국어 능력에 어려움을 겪을 경우 청소년들 은 대안학교 진학 경로를 대안으로 선택하고 있다고 보인다. 고려인 동포 중도 입국 청소년을 위한 진학·취업 교육은 먼저 이들의 생활세계 에 담긴 융합문화적 특징을 존중하고 인정하는 인권으로서의 교육생태계 구축이 요구된다. 또한 문명전환의 시대적 필요에 직면한 청소년시민으로서 모든 중도 입 국 청소년들이 미래 사회의 핵심적 인문 교양 학습에 접근할 수 있는 교육제도의 총체적 혁신이 요구된다. 이들을 위한 진학·취업 교육은 그 바탕 위에서 이루어 져야 할 것이다.
