As a critical component of quality-oriented education, aesthetic education plays an irreplaceable role in fostering individuals’ comprehensive development. However, current practices in aesthetic education in China face persistent challenges. To address these issues, this study proposes an Art-Following Teaching Model and rigorously evaluates its efficacy through systematic experimental research. The findings demonstrate that the model significantly enhances adolescents’ aesthetic literacy and artistic perception capabilities. The Art-Following Teaching Model presents four key advantages. First, it improves educational quality by integrating experiential and creative pedagogical approaches. Second, it aligns closely with the practical realities of primary and secondary education in China, ensuring adaptability to existing curricular frameworks. Third, it mitigates resource constraints by reducing reliance on specialized materials or advanced equipment. Fourth, the model requires minimal teacher training and infrastructure support, making it accessible, scalable, and operationally feasible. By balancing aesthetic cultivation with cognitive development, the model not only enriches art education but also strengthens interdisciplinary learning. It enhances students’ performance in core academic subjects while fostering creativity and critical thinking. This dual focus on artistic and scholastic growth provides a practical solution to systemic challenges in aesthetic education, such as limited instructional time and resource inequities. The Art-Following Teaching Model offers a theoretically grounded and empirically validated framework for advancing holistic youth development. Its innovative design bridges gaps between theory and practice, contributing to educational reform efforts in China. By demonstrating how aesthetic education can synergize with mainstream curricula, the study advances both scholarly discourse and actionable strategies for cultivating well-rounded learners.
