Cable cars are being developed as a means of attracting tourists from various regions, and they have experienced pros and cons in the local community during the development process, so it is necessary to examine residents' perceptions of tourism impact after development. This study attempted to empirically analyze residents' perceptions and attitudes toward the development of Mokpo marine cable cars. The main analysis results are as follows. First, it was found that the more positively the impact of tourism development was perceived, the higher the support and participation intention had a positive (+) effect. It was found that ‘economic’ and ‘environmental factors’ affect support. Second, it was found that the more negatively the impact of tourism development was perceived, the lower the support and intention to participate had a negative (-) effect. Socio-cultural factors have an influence.Third, those who had experience boarding a Mokpo maritime cable car recognized the tourism impact more positively than those who did not, and both support and participation intention were higher. This study is meaningful in empirically investigating the structural impact relationship between residents’ perception of tourism impact, support for tourism development, and participation intention after cable car development. Through this study, it was confirmed that the factors that negatively affect the support and participation of residents in the development of marine cable cars are socio-cultural factors, not the economic and environmental effects claimed by the media.

여러 지역에서 관광객을 유치하는 수단으로 케이블카를 개발하고 있으며, 추진과정에서 지역사회내 첨예한 찬반 갈등을 경험한 바 있어 개발이후 지역주민들의 영향 인식에 대해 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 목포해상케이블카 개발 이후 시민들의 관광개발에 대한 영향 인식과 태도 간의 영향관계를 실증적으로 분석하고 자 한다. 주요 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 관광개발 영향을 긍정적으로 인식할수록 관광개발에 대한 태도 즉, 지지도와 참여의도가 높아지는 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 관광개발 지지도에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 요인은 ‘경제적’, ‘환경적’ 요인으로 나타났다. 둘째, 관광개발 영향을 부정적으로 인식할수록 관 광개발 지지도와 참여의도가 낮아지는 부(-)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 세부요인은 ‘사회문화적’ 요인이었다. 셋째, 목포해상케이 블카 이용경험이 있는 사람은 이용경험이 없는 사람보다 긍정적 관광개발 영향 인식과 태도 즉, 관광개발 지지도와 참여의도가 모두 더 높게 나타났다. 본 연구의 시사점은 첫째, 지금까지의 케이블카 관련 연구는 경제적 연구, 찬반갈등과 관련된 정책연구, 관광객 인식 연구가 대부분이었으나 지역 관광개발에 대한 주민의 인 식 및 태도를 실증 분석하였다. 둘째, 이 연구는 관광개발 영향인식, 관광개발 지지도, 참여의도 간의 구조적 영향관계를 규명하는데 기여하였다. 이번 연구를 통해 해상케이블카 관광개발에서 주민들의 지지와 참여에 부정적 영향을 미치는 요인은 언론과 미디어에서 표면적으로 보이는 경제적·환경적 영향이 아니라 사회문화 적 영향이라는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
