This study explores the potential of transforming traditional cultural heritage into performing arts by analyzing Only Green, a dance poem drama inspired by the Northern Song dynasty painting A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing. Using the theoretical frameworks of intermedia, remediation, and cultural consumption, the research examines the artistic transformation of a static visual artwork into a dynamic multimedia performance, as well as shifts in audience behavior and engagement. Only Green exemplifies an intermedial strategy that merges visual aesthetics with dance, music, and digital technology to create a layered artistic space, while also successfully expanding into an IP-based cultural industry through public-private collaboration. Notably, visual elements of the original painting were reinterpreted into stage design, lighting, and choreography, enhancing emotional immersion and extending into various modes of audience consumption such as SNS sharing and merchandise. This integrative approach moves beyond simple adaptation, demonstrating a recontextualization of cultural heritage into contemporary experience. The convergence of art, digital media, and industry systems suggests an innovative direction for reimagining museum collections as accessible, sustainable, and resonant forms of cultural communication. This study offers practical implications for developing intermedial strategies and content-driven utilization models for cultural heritage in the performing arts.

본 연구는 중국 고궁박물원이 소장한 북송 회화 ‘천리강산도(千里江山圖)’를 모티브로 제작된 무용 시극 ‘즈츠칭뤼(只此青绿, Only Green)’ 사례로 전통 회화의 공연예술화 가능성과 문화유산의 콘텐츠화 전략을 고찰하였다. 인터미디어 이론과 재매개 개념, 그리고 문화소비 이론을 분석 틀로 설정하여 회화가 공연으로 재구 성되는 예술적 양상과 관객 소비 방식의 변화를 분석하였다. ‘즈츠칭뤼’는 회화의 미학을 무용, 음악, 디지털 기술 등 이질적인 예술 매체와 결합하여 다층적 예술 공 간을 형성하며, 민관 협력을 기반으로 공연 IP의 산업적 확장에도 성공한 사례로 평가된다. 특히 회화의 시각 요소가 무대 디자인, 조명, 안무 등을 통해 구현되면서 관객의 감정적 몰입을 유도하고, SNS 공유, 굿즈 소비 등 다양한 소비 행태로 확장되었다. 이러한 융합적 시도는 단순한 콘텐츠 변환을 넘어, 문화유산을 동시대의 문화 경험으로 재맥락화하는 전략으로 작용하였다. 문화예술과 디지털 기술, 산업 시스템 간의 연결은 공공문화자산을 보다 지속 가능하고 대중적으로 소통가능한 형태로 전환할 수 있는 가능성을 제시한다. 본 연구는 박물관 소장품의 공연 예술화 사례를 통해 문화유산의 현대적 활용 전략과 인터미디어적 확장 가능성에 대한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.
