Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the aesthetic meaning and educational value of the dance appreciation experience of elementary pre-service teachers. Methods Data collection was conducted using various data collection methods such as writing dance essays and collecting related documents to grasp in-depth description, empirical understanding, and complex reality, and focus group interviews (FGI) were conducted with groups of five people. Results first, the perception of elementary school pre-service teachers on the experience of watching dance suggested the possibility of eliminating prejudice against dance and understanding and communicating cultural diversity through dance. Second, the response of elementary school pre-service teachers on the experience of watching dance suggested the importance of teachers’ cultural enjoyment to eliminate cultural gaps and served as internal motivation for expressive activity instruction strategies. Conclusions It is necessary to develop teaching-learning strategies and educational methodology for dance appreciation education to foster the aesthetic sensibility of elementary school pre-service teachers. Follow-up research is needed on the aesthetic and educational meaning of elementary school pre-service teachers' interpretation of dance appreciation.

본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 초등예비교사들의 무용감상 경험에 대한 인식을 통해 무용을 보고, 느끼고 이 해하는 미적 의미를 알아보고자 한다. 둘째, 초등예비교사들의 무용감상 경험에 대한 교육적 가치를 통해 초등예비교사의 예술적 소양으로 무용감상의 필요성을 고취시키기 위함이다. 연구기간 및 대상자는 2024 년 3월부터 8월까지 A시 A교육대학교 초등예비교사 53명 중 남자 15명, 여자 38명으로 구성되었다. 자료 수집은 심층적 기술, 경험적 이해, 복합적 현실을 파악하기 위해 무용 감상문 작성 및 관련문서 수집 등 다양한 자료 수집 방법을 활용하였으며, 5명으로 구성된 그룹의 초점집단 면담(FGI)을 실시하였다. 자료 분석은 Mertens(1990)의 분석법에 따라 귀납적으로 이루어졌다. 수집한 문헌 자료와 무용감상문 자료를 기술하고, 자료 속에서 주제를 찾아내며, 그 안의 의미를 개념화하였다. 먼저, 수집된 자료를 단어, 문장, 단락 등으로 나누어 1차 코딩하여 추출하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 무용감상 경험에 대한 초등예비교사의 인식 은 무용의 편견 해소, 무용을 통한 문화 다양성의 이해와 소통의 가능성을 제기하였다. 둘째, 무용감상 경험에 대한 초등예비교사의 반응은 문화 격차 해소를 위한 교사의 문화적 향유의 중요성, 표현활동 지 도 전략을 위한 내적 동기부여로 작용하였음을 알 수 있었다.
