This study explores the necessity of developing a career education course tailored to the needs of students in the arts, by addressing the career-related anxiety experienced by music college students and the limitations of performance-centered curricula. It analyzes the design and implementation of Career and Entrepreneurship, a course piloted at the Department of Music, S University, as a model of curriculum-based career education for music majors. While music students must explore a wide range of career paths beyond performance and teaching, many experience career anxiety due to the lack of systematic education and limited access to information. This study seeks to identify practical strategies for embedding structured career education into the formal curriculum. A case study methodology was used, analyzing course materials including the syllabus, student surveys, assignments, presentations, and counseling records. The 15-week course was examined in terms of weekly instructional components, assessment methods, educational outcomes, and limitations. The findings show that the course contributed to shifts in students’ career awareness, enhanced self-directed planning abilities, and increased motivation to explore diverse career options. Recommendations for improvement include expanding the course to other music disciplines, developing advanced modules, collaborating with external professionals and institutions, and strengthening instructors’ career guidance capacities. Moving beyond short-term lectures and extracurricular programs, this course presents an empirically grounded model for career education within the formal curriculum. It offers a foundation for structured, discipline-specific career education in music colleges and provides insights for future curriculum and policy development in higher arts education. Ultimately, this case illustrates how a regular, credit-bearing course can fill the long-neglected gap in career education within performance-oriented programs and suggests the potential for developing tailored curricula across various music disciplines.

본 연구는 음악대학 학생들의 진로 선택 어려움에 대한 불안 의식과 기존 실기 중심 교육과정의 한계를 바탕으로, 예술계열 맞춤형 진로교육 교과목의 개발 필요성을 제기하고, S 대학교 음악학부에서 시범 운영된 <진로와 취·창업> 교과목의 설계 및 실행 과정을 분석하였다. 음악전공자들은 졸업 후 연주자 및 교육자 외에도 다양한 진로를 탐색할 필요가 있으나, 체계적인 진로교육의 부재와 정보 부족으로 인해 높은 수준의 진로 불안을 경험하는 경향이 있다. 이에 본 연구는 음악전공 학생을 위한 정규 교과 기반의 진로교육 프로그램 개발 사례를 중심으로 실천적 방안을 모색하였다. 연구 방법은 교과목 수업계획서 분석, 설문 조사, 학생 과제물 및 발표 내용 검토, 교수자의 상담자료 분석 등 사례연구 방식으로 구성되었으며, 총 15주 차 수업의 주 차별 구성과 평가 방식, 교육 효과 및 한계점을 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 본 교과목은 학생들의 진로 인식 전환, 자기 주도적 경력 설계 역량 강화, 실질적 진로 탐색의 동기 부여에 긍정적인 효과를 보였다. 또한, 해당 교과목의 개선 방향으로 음악계열 전공 확대 운영, 후속 심화 교과목 개발, 외부 전문가 및 기관과의 협업, 교수자의 진로지도 역량 강화 필요성을 제시하였다. 특히 본 교과목은 단회성 특강이나 비교과 중심의 기존 진로교육을 넘어, 졸업 후 음악전공자의 진로 설계를 위한 교육 모델의 가능성을 실증적으로 제시하였다. 이는 향후 다양한 음악대학에서 체계화된 진로교육을 도입하는 데 있어 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있으며, 음악 교육 및 고등예술교육 정책의 개선 방향에 중요한 시사점을 제공할 것이다. 나아가 실기 중심으로 구성된 음악대학 교과과정 내에서 상대적으로 소외되어온 진로교육의 공백을 정규 교육과정 차원에서 보완한 실제 사례로서, 향후 다양한 음악전공 유형에 적합한 맞춤형 진로교육 커리큘럼 개발로 확장될 수 있다.
