This study investigates the ethical practices of central characters in Changseon Gamuirok, a late Joseon dynasty didactic novel, through the lenses of Confucian ethics, virtue ethics, and reader-response aesthetics. Rather than portraying moral behavior as mere repetition of traditional norms, the novel presents a nuanced view of ethical decision-making shaped by emotional engagement, contextual awareness, and communal responsibility. The focus of this study lies in analyzing the actions of three key characters—Jin Chaegyeong, Nam Chaebong, and Yun Yeo-ok—whose moral choices are driven by internal conflict and self-determined judgment rather than mechanical adherence to social expectations. Jin Chaegyeong exemplifies a balance between filial piety and chastity, employing practical wisdom to resolve ethical dilemmas. Nam Chaebong demonstrates how traditional filial duty is internalized and enacted as a sustained emotional and moral commitment. Yun Yeo-ok, a male figure, illustrates how emotional restraint and understanding can facilitate reconciliation and communal harmony, thereby serving as a model of ethical sensitivity. These character portrayals show that ethical action in the novel is not static but situational, prompting the reader to engage with questions of moral agency. By applying theories of virtue ethics and reader-response criticism, this paper argues for the pedagogical potential of Changseon Gamuirok in literature education. The study suggests that learners can cultivate emotional literacy, moral reasoning, and self-reflective thinking by interpreting characters who make value-based decisions under moral pressure. Ultimately, this research positions Changseon Gamuirok as a multi-layered ethical narrative with enduring educational value. It offers meaningful insights into how classic literature can support integrated approaches to moral and literary education in contemporary classrooms.

본고는 <창선감의록>에 등장하는 주요 인물들의 윤리 실천 양상을 유교 윤리, 덕 윤 리, 수용미학의 관점에서 분석하고, 이를 통해 고전문학의 문학교육적 함의를 밝히고자 하였다. <창선감의록>은 유교 사회가 요구한 여성 윤리의 이상을 제시하면서도, 다양한 갈등 상황 속에서 인물들이 보이는 감정, 판단, 실천의 역동성을 통해 윤리적 판단과 주 체적 행위의 가능성을 보여주는 작품이다. 본 연구는 특히 진채경, 남채봉, 윤여옥 세 인물에 주목하여, 이들의 윤리 실천이 도덕 규범의 기계적 수용이 아니라 감정과 맥락, 공동체적 책임의식 속에서 형성된 자율적 행위임을 논증하였다. 진채경은 효와 정절이라는 충돌하는 도덕 규범 속에서 실천적 지혜를 바탕으로 갈등 을 극복하고, 타인에 대한 책임 윤리를 실천하는 인물로서 덕 윤리적 주체로 재해석된다. 남채봉은 부모에 대한 효를 감정적으로 내면화하고 반복적 실천을 통해 구체화함으로써, 아리스토텔레스적 덕 윤리의 핵심인 도덕 감정과 실천지를 구현한다. 윤여옥은 타인의 결정을 이해하고 공동체적 화해를 유도하는 윤리 감정의 조율자로 형상화되며, 감정과 도덕 판단이 조화된 주체로 독자의 윤리적 상상력을 자극하는 역할을 수행한다. 이러한 인물 해석은 고전소설이 문학교육 현장에서 도덕교육과 통합적으로 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 시사한다. 본 연구는 고전문학이 단지 전통 윤리의 계승이나 규범 주입의 도구로 기능하는 것이 아니라, 학습자 스스로가 인물의 삶과 갈등에 정서적으로 반응하 고, 그 속에서 윤리적 판단을 내리는 주체로 성장할 수 있는 서사적 기반이 될 수 있음을 강조하였다. 특히 덕 윤리와 수용미학을 통합한 분석은 학습자가 감정과 윤리를 통합적 으로 사유하고, 고전 텍스트를 자기 삶과 연결하여 성찰할 수 있는 문학교육의 새로운 방향을 제시한다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.
