This article aims to introduce a new way of understanding literature. Up until now, we have understood animals appearing in literary works as a medium that symbolizes humans, human society, and the human mind. As this method continued, it was internalized in us, and the development of civilization turned them into a means, a tool, and a game. And in the end, violence was committed without any consciousness. This is the ‘history’ of humans. Inter-species community theory begins with reflecting on and criticizing this human history. It seeks to redefine the history we have formed together with them by understanding and interpreting the animals that appear in literary works as biological ‘animals’ themselves. What is important in inter-species community theory is the relationship between the system and the kingdom. Problems involving complex intertwining of various kingdoms are difficult to solve from the perspective of a specific kingdom. Approaching them from the perspective of a specific kingdom can actually cause bigger problems. This is the way we have done so far. The current climate crisis and other environmental disasters we are experiencing can be solved when approached from the perspective of an ecosystem that transcends the human kingdom. This article also contains a rough outline of the expansion of the theory of inter-species communities. Currently, we are forming communities with companion animals, domestic animals, wild animals, etc. However, there is no clear view on the definition, understanding, and recognition of this community. Each person understands, practices, and consumes in their own way. As this phenomenon continues, various social problems arise. Academic consideration of this is urgent and solidarity from many people is required.

이 글은 문학을 이해하는 새로운 방식에 대한 소개를 목적으로 한다. 그동안 우리는, 문학작품에 등장하는 동물들을 인간과 인간 사회, 인간 내면을 형상화하는 매개로 이해 하였다. 이러한 방식이 지속되면서 그것이 우리에게 내면화되었고 문명의 발전을 위해 그들을 수단화, 도구화, 유희화했다. 그리고 종국에는 아무런 의식 없이 폭력을 행사하였 다. 이것이 인간의 ‘역사’이다. 종간공동체론는 이러한 인간 역사를 반성하고 비판하는 데서 출발한다. 문학작품에 등장하는 동물을 생물학적 ‘동물’ 그 자체로 이해하고 해석하여 그들과 우리가 함께 형 성한 역사를 재정의하고자 한다. 종간공동체론에서 중요한 것은 계(系)와 계(界)의 관계 이다. 다양한 계(界)가 복잡하게 얽힌 문제는 특정 계의 시각으로는 해결하기 어렵다. 특정 계의 관점으로 접근하면 오히려 더 큰 문제가 생길 수 있다. 우리가 그동안 행한 방식이다. 현재 우리가 경험하는 기후 위기 등 환경 재앙 문제는 인간계(人間界)를 벗어 난 생태계(生態系)의 관점으로 접근할 때 해결 가능한 것이다. 이 글은 또한 종간공동체론의 확장에 관한 대략의 내용을 담고 있다. 현재 우리는 반 려동물, 사육동물, 야생동물 등과 공동체를 형성하고 있다. 그럼에도 이 공동체에 대한 정의와 이해, 인식의 방식에 대한 명확한 시선이 부재하다. 각자의 방식으로 이해하고 실천하고 소비하고 있다. 이러한 현상이 지속되면서 다양한 사회적 문제가 발생하고 있 다. 이에 대한 학문적 고민이 절실하며 많은 사람의 연대가 요구된다.
