This study aims to compare and analyze the effects of game and smartphone addiction on self-esteem, ego-resilience, impulsivity, depression, and happiness among school dropouts by gender. In this process, we will especially consider gender differences. For the analysis, we used the 5th year data of the “School Dropout Youth Panel Survey” conducted by the Korea Youth Policy Institute. For the specific analysis, we conducted multiple regression analysis using SPSS 29.0. The results of the analysis showed that game addiction had a significant effect on the self-esteem of male school dropouts, but not on females, and smartphone addiction had a significant effect on both male and female self-esteem. Game addiction was also significant only for males, and smartphone addiction was significant for male and female ego-resilience. Impulsivity was affected only by smartphones for both male and female school dropouts. Depression was positively affected by game addiction and smartphone addiction for both male and female school dropouts, and life satisfaction and smartphone addiction had a significant relationship only for female school dropouts. Policy recommendations based on the analysis results include the establishment of group education programs, parent education programs, and gender-specific specialized education programs. The significance of this study lies in the fact that it targeted adolescents who dropped out of school and are in a special environment compared to general adolescents. In addition, while most studies focus on factors that cause media addiction, this study assumes the opposite causal relationship. In addition, it is significant in that it provides a basis for more systematic program establishment by comparing gender separately.

이 연구는 학업중단 청소년을 대상으로 게임 및 스마트폰 중독이 자아존중감, 자아탄력성, 충동성, 우울, 행복감에 미치는 영향을 성별에 따라 비교·분석하고자 한다. 이 과정에서 특히 성별의 차이를 고려하고자 한다. 분석을 위하여 한국청소년정책연구원에서 실시한 ｢학업중단 청소년 패널 조사｣의 5차 년도 데이터를 대상으로 하였다. 구체적인 분석은 SPSS 29.0을 활용한 다중 회귀분 석을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 게임중독은 남자 학업중단 청소년의 자아존중감에 유의미한 영향을 미 쳤으나, 여자 학업중단 청소년에게는 유의미하지 않았으며, 스마트폰 중독은 남녀 자아존중감 모두에 유의미하였다. 자아탄력성 역시 게임중독은 남자에게만 유의미하였으며, 스마트폰 중독은 남녀 자아탄력성에 유의미하였다. 충동성은 스마트폰만이 남녀 학업중단 청소년 모두에게 영향을 주었 다. 우울은 남녀 모두 게임중독과 스마트폰 중독에 의해 양(+)의 영향을 받았으며, 생활만족감과은 스마트폰 중독이 여자 학업중단 청소년에게만 유의미한 관계가 있었다. 분석결과를 바탕으로 한 정 책적 제언은 집단 교육프로그램 마련, 부모교육 프로그램 마련, 성별의 특성 맞춤형 특화 교육 프로 그램의 마련이다. 이 연구는 학업중단 청소년을 대상으로 하여 일반 청소년들과는 특수한 환경에 놓여있는 청소년들을 대상으로 했다는 점에 그 의의가 있다. 또한, 통상이 연구들이 매체중독을 유 발하는 요인에 집중하는 반면, 이 연구는 반대의 인과관계를 상정하였다는 점에 의의가 있다. 또한, 성별을 분리하여 비교함으로써 보다 체계적인 프로그램 마련의 근거를 제공하였다는 점에서 의의 가 있다.
