This study aims to create a structured framework for designing facial expressions in digital humans, enhancing their emotional realism and user interaction. By employing Plutchik’s model of eight primary emotions, the research analyzes the connection between emotions and facial muscle movements, expanding on Paul Ekman’s six basic emotions by adding two additional emotional states. Emotions were further categorized by intensity, allowing for more nuanced emotional representations. The study’s main contribution lies in developing design principles that go beyond visual replication, fostering emotional interactivity between digital humans and users. These principles enable more natural, emotionally engaging digital interactions, enhancing user immersion in applications requiring emotional intelligence, such as virtual reality and AIdriven platforms. Despite the study’s qualitative nature, further research is needed with quantitative data and cross-cultural exploration to strengthen generalizability and ensure the framework's global applicability. Ultimately, this research provides a scientifically grounded approach for improving digital human emotional expressions, with future studies focusing on empirical user evaluations and cross-cultural perspectives to refine its impact across diverse fields.
