Community policing is problem-oriented. At this time, the problem is regarded as the cause of the crime. As various conditions in society contribute to the generation of crimes, the function of the police has been expanded under the philosophy of community policing. However, since police activities are carried out within the limits of the resources possessed by the police, solving social problems only by police activities is practically limited. Accordingly, community policing attempts cooperation with local members. However, unlike police activities, citizens' problem-solving activities are a somewhat contrived phenomenon. This is because citizens do not have the duty and authority to solve problems. Nevertheless, the concept of informal control was discussed in the academic world, and the driving force behind it was estimated from the way it worked in reality. In this study, attention was paid to place attachment as one of them. Place attachment refers to an individual's attitude to love the surrounding environment and maintain bonds. The act of protecting the object you love is interpreted as a natural phenomenon. Accordingly, some researchers argued that place attachment would induce informal control by providing local members with a sense of responsibility for solving problems. However, despite the problem-solving function of place attachment, it was judged to be somewhat neglected in the fields of police science and criminology. Only some previous studies emphasized the significance of place attachment. Therefore, this study attempted to prove the value of place attachment as a research subject by combining community policing and place attachment. As a result of multiple regression analysis after securing 815 adult male and female samples, it was found that perception of community policing enhances place attachment. Based on the results of these studies, the significance of community policing was reviewed, and the possibility of place attachment as a research topic of police science was discussed.

지역사회 경찰활동은 문제지향적이다. 이때 문제는 범죄를 야기하는 원인으로 간주 된다. 사회의 다양한 조건이 범죄의 생성에 기여하는바 지역사회 경찰활동이라는 철학 아래경찰의기능이확대되었다. 그러나 경찰활동은경찰이보유한자원의한도 내에서 실시되기에 경찰활동만으로 사회적 문제를 해결하는 것은 현실적으로 제한된다. 이에 지역사회 경찰활동은 지역 구성원과의 협력을 시도한다. 그러나 시민의 문제해결활동 은 경찰활동과 달리 다소간 작위적인 현상이다. 시민에게는 문제해결의 의무와 권한이 부재하기 때문이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 비공식적 통제라는 개념이 학계에서 논의되며 현실에서 작동하는모습에서 그 이면의 동인이 추정되었다. 이 연구에서는그중 하나로 지역애착에 주목하였다. 지역애착은 개인이 주변의 환경을 애정하며 유대를 유지하려 는 태도를 의미한다. 사랑하는대상을보호하는 행위는 지극히 당위적인 현상으로해석 된다. 이에 일부 연구자는 지역애착이 지역 구성원에게 문제해결의 책임감을 제공함으 로써 비공식적 통제를 유도할 것이라 주장하였다. 다만 지역애착의 문제해결 기능에도 불구하고 경찰학과 범죄학의 영역에서 지역애착은 다소간 경시된 것으로 판단되었다. 일부 선행연구만이 지역애착의 의의를 강조하였을 뿐이었다. 이에 이 연구에서는 지역사회 경찰활동과 지역애착을 결합함으로써 연구대상으로 지역애착의 가치를 증명하고 자 하였다. 815개의 성인 남녀 표본을 확보한 후 다중회귀분석을 실시한 결과 지역사회 경찰활동 인식은 지역애착을 제고하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구의 결과를 바탕으 로 지역사회 경찰활동의 의의를고찰하고 경찰학의 연구주제로서 지역애착의 가능성을 논의하였다.
