The purpose of this study is to examine in depth the meaning and value of entering academic graduate school for millennials elementary teachers and the process of growing as a researcher through qualitative research methods. As a result of the study, the research participants went to graduate school to “follow her dream in reality” as a millennial elementary teacher, and its meaning was to solve her “thirst for learning and research” In addition, despite the uncertainty of feeling “exploring the unknown world”, she has developed the ability to grow as a researcher “step by step”, and as a teacher-researcher, she has reborn as a “main agent of educational reform” in an “unfamiliar but familiar educational field” Based on the results of this study, not only academic implications but also suggestions for improving the teacher education system and policy implications for supporting and utilizing elementary teachers' experience to academic graduate schools were presented.

본 연구는 한 밀레니얼 세대 초등교사를 연구참여자로 하여 일반대학원 진학의 의미와 가 치가 무엇인지, 연구자로서 성장하는 과정은 어떠한지 심층 면담, 참여 관찰, 현지 문헌 조사 를 포함한 질적 연구 방법을 통해 심층적으로 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구 결과, 연 구참여자는 밀레니얼 세대 초등교사로서 ‘현실 속에서 자신의 꿈을 좇기 위해’ 대학원에 진학 하였고, ‘학문과 연구에 대한 갈증’을 해소하는 데 그 의미를 두고 있었다. 또한, ‘미지의 세계 를 탐험’한다고 느끼는 불확실성 속에서도 연구자로서 성장하기 위한 역량을 ‘차근차근 다듬 어’ 왔으며, 교사-연구자로서 ‘낯설지만 익숙한 교육 현장’에서 ‘교육개혁의 주체’로 거듭나고 있었다. 본 연구 결과를 기반으로 하여, 학술적 함의뿐만 아니라 교사교육 제도 개선에 대한 제언 및 초등교사의 일반대학원 경험에 대한 지원 및 활용 방안에 대한 정책적 시사점을 함 께 제시하였다.
