[Purpose] Our study aimed to identify how born-global ventures’ digital transformation as an idiosyncratic resource influences their innovation growth. Using the resource-advantage theory of competition as an underlying framework, we developed an empirically testable model in order to explain and predict the effects of born-global ventures’ digital transformation changes on their innovation growth. [Methodology] Data were obtained from the Korea Enterprise Data and the Smart Factory Business Management System managed by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. The unit of analysis was a born-global venture’s accounting year in which its digital transformation was evaluated. A total of 943 cases were analyzed through a multiple regression model. [Findings] The results of the multiple regression analysis indicated that changes in digital transformation of born-global ventures positively influence their innovation growth. Nonetheless, born-global ventures’ innovation capability change, firm-size change, and government support little affect innovation growth. [Implications] The results of our study provided several implications. First, from the perspective of the resource-advantage theory of competition, we proposed a model that explains how born-global ventures can accomplish innovation growth. Second, managers of born-global ventures should prioritize resource-investments in digital transformation that enable the ventures to achive innovation growth that may leads to a attaining a competitive advantage position in the global marketplace.

[연구목적] 본 연구의 목적은 태생적 글로벌 벤처의 독특한 자원인 디지털 전환이 혁신 성과에 미치는 영향 을 검증하는 것에 있다. 이를 위해, 자원우위 경쟁이론을 준거이론으로 하여 태생적 글로벌 벤처의 디지털 전환 변화가 혁신 성과에 미치는 영향을 설명하고 예측하는 실증분석이 가능한 모형을 개발하였다. [연구방법] 실증분석을 위해서 중소벤처기업부가 관리하는 스마트 공장 사업관리시스템과 한국기업데이터 로부터 태생적 글로벌 벤처 관련 자료를 확보하였다. 본 연구에서 분석의 단위는 디지털 전환이 수행된 태생적 글로벌 벤처의 회계연도였다. 총 943건의 사례를 다중 회귀 모형을 통해 분석했다. [연구결과] 분석 결과, 태생적 글로벌 벤처의 디지털 전환 수준의 변화는 혁신 성과장에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만, 태생적 글로벌 벤처의 혁신 역량의 변화, 기업 규모 변화, 정부 지원은 혁신 성과 에 유의미한 영향을 주지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. [연구의 시사점] 본 연구의 결과는 여러 시사점을 제공하였다. 첫째, 자원우위 경쟁이론의 관점에서 태생적 글로벌 벤처가 어떻게 혁신 성과를 달성할 수 있는지 설명하는 모형이 유의미하게 검증되었다. 둘째, 본 연구는 태생적 글로벌 벤처의 경영자는 글로벌 시장에서 경쟁 우위를 확보할 수 있는 혁신 성과을 달성할 수 있도록 다른 자원에 투자하는 것에 앞서 디지털 전환에 투자를 우선시할 것을 제안하였다.
