Purpose of Research : The purpose of this study is to suggest service-learning as an useful and effective tool or methodology for implementing the founding philosophy of a Christian university. Research Content and Method : Christian universities face the important task of practicing education in accordance with the founding spirit and nurturing talented individuals to send them out into the world. Under these situational premise, this study first examined the definition and concept of service-learning. and the historical background of the establishment, and expansion of service-learning in Korea universities. Next, the researcher explored the significance of service-learning to Christian universities from the relationship between universities and the local community, and from the biblical perspective. This study also compared cases of two universities that have successfully practiced service-learning in connection with the founding philosophy of school. Lastly, this study suggested the possible application of service-learning linked to curriculum and local communities in university or Christian-related departments level. Conclusion and Suggestions : Recently, many universities have recognized the importance of community service and have launched community service groups as a kind of service-learning program, while others have adopted community service as a subject and are operating it. In this sense, this study suggested following three directions for implementing service-learning more systematically and effectively: 1) developing service-learning linked to the university’s founding philosophy, organizing elaborate curriculum in connection with practical institutions, 3) building effective service-learning strategy.

연구 목적 : 본 연구는 기독교 대학의 건학이념을 실천하기 위한 유용하고 효과적인 방법론으로서 두 대학의 사례를 통하여 어떻게 봉사-학습을 유용하게 활용할 수 있을지 살펴보고 그 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구내용 및 방법 : 기독교 대학은 건학이념에 따른 교육을 실천하고, 인재를 양성하여 세상에 내보내야 하는 중요한 과제를 안고 있다. 이러한 전제하에 본 연구는 먼저 봉사-학습의 정의와 개념, 그리고 한국에서 봉사-학습이 확립되고 확장된 역사적 배경을 살펴보았다. 다음으로 대학과 지역사회의 관계, 그리고 성경적 관점에서 기독교 대학에 대한 봉사-학습의 의의를 탐구했다. 또한 봉사-학습을 성공적으로 실천한 두 대학의 사례를 비교했다. 마지막으로 기독교 대학이나 기독교 관련 학과에서 커리큘럼과 지역사회와 연계한 봉사-학습의 가능성을 살펴보고, 이를 실천하는 데 필요한 전략적 고려 사항과 운영 방안을 제시했다. 결론 및 제언 : 최근 들어 많은 대학에서 사회봉사의 중요성을 인식하고 일종의 봉사-학습 프로그램으로 사회봉사 동아리를 만들었고, 사회봉사를 교과목으로 채택하여 운영하는 대학도 있다. 이런 관점에서 본 연구는 기독교 대학과 기독교 관련 학과에 적용할 수 있는 봉사-학습과 관련된 의미 있는 시사점을 도출하고자 했으며, 기독교 대학에서 봉사-학습을 보다 체계적이고 효과적으로 추진하기 위해 다음의 전략적 운영 계획을 제안했다. 1) 대학의 건학이념과 연계한 봉사-학습 개발. 2) 현장의 관련기관들과 연계한 체계적인 커리큘럼 구성, 3) 효과적인 봉사-학습 전략 수립.
