As the Chinese government is simultaneously promoting digital economic development and carbon neutrality, institutional and social demands surrounding corporate ESG management are rapidly increasing. This study empirically analyzes the impact of Digital Transformation (DT) on ESG performance in China's A-share listed companies from 2015 to 2023 and examines the moderating effects of the political ties and equity holdings of top management teams (TMTs) on this relationship. Panel data regression analysis reveals that corporate digital transformation significantly enhances ESG performance, suggesting that digital technologies can optimize resource allocation and improve information transparency, thereby promoting sustainable value creation for firms. Furthermore, the political connections of top executives play a moderating role in strengthening the positive effects of digital transformation on ESG performance by facilitating relationships with the government. The equity holdings of top executives also amplify the positive impact of digital transformation on ESG management, indicating that long-term value creation incentives among executives can drive active engagement in ESG and digital innovation initiatives. These findings highlight the strategic importance of leveraging digital transformation and the specific characteristics of top management in strengthening ESG management and achieving corporate sustainability among Chinese firms. Moreover, this study provides academic and practical contributions by elucidating the relationship between digital transformation and ESG management in the context of emerging markets.

최근 중국 정부가 디지털경제 발전과 탄소중립을 동시에 추진하면서, 기업의 ESG 경영을 둘러싼 제도적·사회적 요구가 급격히 높 아지고 있다. 본 연구는 2015년부터 2023년까지 중국 A주 상장기업을 대상으로 디지털 전환(Digital Transformation, DT)이 기업의 ESG 성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하고, 최고경영진(TMT)의 정치적 연계성과 지분 보유율이 이러한 관계에서 어떠한 조절 효과를 가지는지를 검증하였다. 패널데이터 회귀분석 결과, 중국기업의 디지털 전환은 ESG 성과를 유의미하게 향상시키는 것으로 나 타났으며, 이는 디지털 기술이 자원 배분과 정보 공개의 효율성을 높여 기업의 지속 가능한 가치 창출을 촉진할 수 있음을 시사한다. 또한, 최고경영진의 정치적 연계성은 정부와의 관계를 통해 디지털 전환과 ESG 성과 간의 긍정적 효과를 강화하는 조절 역할을 하는 것으로 분석되었다. 최고경영진의 지분 보유율 역시 디지털 전환이 ESG 경영에 미치는 긍정적 영향을 증대시키는 것으로 나타나, 경 영진의 장기적 가치 창출에 대한 동기가 ESG 및 디지털 혁신 활동을 촉진할 수 있음을 보여준다. 이러한 연구 결과는 중국기업들이 ESG 경영을 강화하고 지속가능성을 확보하는 데 있어 디지털 전환과 최고경영진의 특성을 전략적으로 활용할 필요가 있음을 강조한 다. 나아가 본 연구는 신흥국 맥락에서 디지털 전환과 ESG 경영 간의 관계를 규명함으로써 학문적·실무적 기여를 제공할 수 있을 것 으로 기대된다.
