Career maturity refers to an individual's readiness to make rational and realistic career choices based on a clear understanding of themselves and their profession, enabling them to make informed career decisions. Enhancing career maturity during adolescence is critical, as it not only influences developmental tasks in adulthood but also shapes the trajectory of an individual’s overall life course. This study aims to examine the factors affecting career maturity and specifically investigates the impact of poverty on adolescents' career maturity. Given the potential for poverty to influence career maturity indirect pathways, this study explores the mediating effect of parental support on the relationship between poverty and career maturity. To this end, the study employs Hayes’ Process Macro model and bootstrapping methods for mediation analysis. The data were drawn from the 13th wave of the Korean Welfare Panel Study (KOWEPS), specifically targeting 348 middle school students in early adolescence. The results indicate that the direct effect of poverty on career maturity was not statistically significant. However, the indirect effect of poverty on career maturity, mediated by parental support, was found to be significant. Specifically, poverty negatively influenced parental support, while parental support positively influenced adolescents’ career maturity. These findings align with the proposed mediation hypothesis and suggest the possibility of a complete mediation effect, whereby poverty affects adolescents’ career maturity solely through its negative impact on parental support. This study provides implications for future poverty research, emphasizing the need to consider not only the direct effects of economic poverty but also the indirect and multidimensional pathways through which poverty impacts youth outcomes. Lastly, this study highlights the importance of enhancing parental support capacities through targeted social services to promote the career development of adolescents from low-income families.

진로성숙도는 개인이 자신과 직업에 대한 명확한 이해와 탐색을 바탕으로 합리적이 고 현실적인 진로선택을 할 수 있는 준비상태를 말한다. 청소년기에 진로성숙도를 증진 시키는 것이 중요한 이유는 이것이 성인기 발달 과업으로 이어질 뿐만 아니라 전반적인 삶의 궤적에도 영향을 미치기 때문이다. 본 연구는 청소년의 진로성숙도에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 검토하고, 빈곤이 청소년 의 진로성숙도에 미치는 영향을 검증하고자 하였다. 이때, 빈곤의 영향력이 경로적일 수 있다는 점에 착안하여, 빈곤과 청소년의 진로성숙도 사이에서 부모지원의 매개효과를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 한국복지패널 13차 아동부가조사에 포함된 초기 청소년인 중학 생 348명을 대상으로 하여, Hayes가 제안한 프로세스 매크로(Process Macro) 모델 및 부트스트래핑(bootstrapping) 기법을 적용하였다. 연구 결과, 빈곤과 진로성숙도 간의 직접효과는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았으나, 부 모지원을 매개로 한 빈곤과 진로성숙도간의 간접효과는 유의미하게 나타났다. 특히, 빈 곤이 부모지원에 부적인 영향을 미치고, 부모지원은 청소년의 진로성숙도에 정적인 영 향을 미치고 있어, 본 연구의 매개효과에 대한 가설과 부합하였다. 이러한 결과는 빈곤이 부모지원의 매개효과를 통해서만 청소년의 진로성숙도에 영향을 미친다는 완전매개효 과 가능성도 시사하고 있다. 이는 향후 빈곤연구에서, 경제적 결핍 개념으로 측정된 빈곤 이 미치는 직접적인 효과에 대한 관심 이외에도, 빈곤이 야기한 경로적이고 다차원적인 속성을 반영한 간접효과도 고려해야 한다는 함의를 제공한다. 끝으로 본 연구는 빈곤 청소년의 진로 발달과 관련하여, 부모지원 역량을 강화하기 위 한 사회서비스 도입을 제안하였다.
