This study examined the mediating effect of emotional intelligence in the relationship between college students' self-esteem and interpersonal competence. For this purpose, a survey will be conducted on 357 college students located in S-si, Gyeonggi-do, and a total of 338 copies will be used in the final analysis. The research results are as follows. First, it was found that there was a significant positive correlation between self-esteem, interpersonal competence, and emotional intelligence. Second, student’ self-esteem and emotional intelligence were found to have a positive effect on their interpersonal competence. Third, emotional intelligence was found to play a partial mediating role in the relationship between collegr student’ self-esteem and interpersonal competence. These research results suggest that measures to increase self-esteem and emotional intelligence perceived by college student are needed to improve interpersonal competence. Finally, based on the purpose and results of this study, the implications and significance of this study and the need for further research were discussed.

본 연구는 대학생의 자아존중감과 대인관계유능성의 관계에서 정서지능의 매개효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경기도 S시에 위치한 대학생 357명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고 총 338부를 최종 분석에 사용하였 다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자아존중감, 대인관계유능성, 정서지능 간에 유의한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 대학생의 자아존중감과 정서지능은 대인관계유능성에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋 째, 대학생의 자아존중감과 대인관계유능성의 관계에서 정서지능이 부분매개역할을 할 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 통해 대인관계유능성의 향상을 위해서는 대학생이 지각하는 자아존중감과 정서지능을 높이는 방안이 필요함을 시사한다. 끝으로 본 연구의 목적과 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 시사점과 의의 및 추후연구의 필요성을 논의하였다.
