The purpose of this study was to investigate how ESG management (Environmental, Social, and Governance) of small and medium-sized enterprises in Chungbuk affects management performance. First, we tried to verify whether the three factors of SMEs’ ESG management have some significant impact on financial and non-financial management performance. We also tried to examine whether transformational leadership plays a moderating role in the relationship between ESG management and management performance. To demonstrate these hypotheses, empirical analyses were conducted by using 119 data collected from SMEs located in Chungbuk Province. As a result of the study, two factors were found to have a significant impact on financial management performance of small and medium-sized businesses in Chungbuk, while three factors were found to have a significant impact on non-financial management performance: Environmental efforts, social efforts (ethical management), and governance improvement. Additionally, it was discovered that the moderating effect of transformational leadership had a positive moderating effect on the relationship between the independent variables of governance improvement and financial management performance. The moderating role of transformational leadership for managers' members in SMEs, which are relatively limited in size and resources compared to large corporations, can be a very important factor for SMEs to improve their financial management performance. Based on the results of this study, theoretical and practical strategic implications were derived, and the limitations of the study and future research directions also were suggested.

본 연구는 충북지역 중소기업의 ESG 경영(환경, 사회, 지배구조)이 경영성과에 어떤 영향을 주는지를 규명해 보고자 하였다. 먼저 중소기업의 ESG 경영의 3가지 요인이 재무적인 경영성과와 비재무적인 경영성과에 유의미 한 영향을 주는지에 대한 실증분석을 수행하였다. 또한 변혁적리더십이 ESG 경영과 경영성과와의 관계에서 조 절역할을 하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 가설 검증을 위해 충북지역 소재 중소기업에서 수집한 119개의 데이터를 활 용하여 실증분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 충북 중소기업의 ESG 경영의 환경적 노력과 지배구조개선 2가지 요인은 재무적 경영성과에 유의 한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, ESG 경영의 환경적 노력, 사회적 노력(윤리경영), 지배구조 개선 3가지 요인 은 비재무적 경영성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 변혁적 리더십의 조절효과는 지배구조개선 의 독립변수와 재무적 경영성과 관계에 있어 통계적으로 유의한 조절효과가 있음이 밝혀졌다. 대기업에 비해 상 대적으로 규모와 자원에서 한계를 보이고 있는 중소기업에서 경영자의 구성원들에 대한 변혁적 리더십의 조절역 할은 중소기업들이 재무적인 기업성과를 제고시키기 위해 매우 중요한 요소가 될 수 있다. 끝으로 본 연구 결과 를 토대로 이론적이고 실무적인 전략적 시사점을 도출하였고, 연구의 한계점 및 향후 연구방향도 제시하였다.
