This study aims to analyze the trends of research related to the maritime police and to analyze the characteristics of domestic maritime police-related research. Through this, the purpose is to explore which topics and sub-fields have been actively studied and which sub-fields have been neglected, and to derive sub-fields that should be supplemented in the future. To this end, the importance of research trend analysis, which has been actively conducted in various academic fields, was first reviewed, and the necessity of conducting research trend research in the field of police studies, especially in the field of maritime police studies, was discussed with a focus on the academic identity of maritime police studies. Afterwards, the titles, keywords, and Korean abstracts of all papers published so far in the Journal of the Korean Maritime Police Association, the only domestic KCI academic journal on the subject of maritime police, were converted into data, and then the status of maritime police-related research was analyzed by reclassifying them by year and subject and conducting frequency analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that domestic maritime police-related research is most concentrated in the ‘outside of maritime police studies’ field that is not within the scope of maritime police studies, and that the greatest focus is on the fields of ‘maritime police personnel management’ and ‘maritime security’ among the fields of maritime police studies. In addition, it was confirmed that a large number of studies were conducted in the fields of safety management, maritime police laws, organization management, equipment and technology management, but in contrast, very few studies were conducted in fields such as police control, international affairs, budget management, and pollution prevention. These research results show that the scope of maritime police studies is currently somewhat ambiguous, and maritime police-related research is biased toward a few topics. Based on this, it was suggested that the academic identity of maritime police studies should be studied more actively to clarify the subject and scope of the research in order to achieve balanced development of maritime police and maritime police studies.

이 연구는 해양경찰 관련 연구의 동향을 분석함으로써 국내 해양경찰연구의 특징 이 무엇인지를 탐구하고, 나아가 그동안 어떤 주제와 세부분야가 활발히 연구되었는 지, 반대로 그간 소홀히 다루어져 향후 보완되어야 할 세부분야는 무엇인지를 탐색 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 해양경찰을 주제로 하고 있는 유일한 국내 KCI 학술지인 한국해양경찰학회보에서 지금까지 출간된 모든 논문들의 제목과 주제어, 국문초록 등의 정보를 연도별·주제별 등으로 재분류하고, 텍스트 마이닝 기법을 통해 키워드를 추출함으로써 해양경찰 관련 연구현황을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 국내 해양 경찰 관련 연구는 해양경찰학의 범위에 있지 않은 ‘해양경찰학 외’ 분야에 가장 크게 밀집되어 있음을 확인하였으며, 해양경찰학 분야 중에서는 ‘해양경찰인사관리’와 ‘해 양경비’ 분야에 가장 큰 초점이 맞추어져 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 안전관리, 해양경 찰법령, 조직관리, 장비 및 기술 관리 분야에서도 다수의 연구가 진행된 것으로 나타 났다. 그에 반해 경찰통제나 국제외사, 예산관리나 오염방제 등과 같은 분야는 매우 적은 수의 연구가 진행된 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 현재 해양경찰학의 연구범위 혹은 연구초점영역에 다소 모호한 측면이 있으며, 해양경찰 관련 연구가 몇몇 주제들에 편재되어 있음을 보여준다. 이러한 결과를 토대로, 해양경찰 및 해양 경찰학의 균형 잡힌 발전을 위해 소외된 연구주제들에 관한 적극적인 유도방안을 모색하고, 해양경찰학의 학문적 정체성에 관한 기초연구를 보다 활발히 시도함으로써 연구의 대상과 범위를 보다 명료하게 할 필요성을 제기하였다.
