Communication competency encompasses the ability to represent mathematical knowledge, ideas, results of mathematical activities, problem-solving processes, beliefs, and attitudes through spoken or written language, drawings, and symbols, as well as the capacity to understand others' ideas. This competence provides opportunities for students to share various approaches in problem-solving tasks and compare each other's strategies, thereby fostering their ability to solve problems creatively. To examine how this communication competence is implemented in textbooks, an analysis of the currently used elementary mathematics textbooks was conducted. The analysis revealed that communication competence was present in all semesters and areas; however, differences in the ways this competence was implemented across different textbooks were noted. A sub-element analysis indicated a prevalence of activities that involve representing one's thoughts and developing or transforming mathematical representations. Based on these findings, implications for lesson design, assessment, and textbook writing were sought.

의사소통 역량은 수학적 지식, 아이디어, 활동의 결과, 문제해결 과정, 신념 및 태 도를 언어, 글, 그림, 기호 등을 통해 표현하고, 타인의 아이디어를 이해하는 능력 을 포함한다. 이는 문제해결 과정에서 다양한 접근 방식을 공유하고 서로의 전략을 비교하는 기회를 제공하여 학생들이 창의적으로 문제를 해결할 수 있는 능력을 길 러줄 수 있다. 의사소통 역량의 효과적인 구현 방법을 모색하기 위하여 현재 사용 되고 있는 초등 수학 검정 교과서 10종을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 모든 학기 및 모 든 영역에서 의사소통 역량이 구현되어 있었으나 교과서마다 역량을 구현하는 방 식의 차이가 나타났다. 하위 요소를 분석한 결과, 자신의 생각을 표현하거나 수학 적 표현을 개발 및 변환하는 활동이 많이 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 수업 설계와 평가, 교과서 집필에 대한 시사점을 모색하였다.
