This study investigates the realist features of animation and demonstrates how grotesque aesthetics can be embodied through dubbing performance. Focusing on Beauty Water, a realist animation that portrays human desires and symbolic imagery, this research analyzes how the work integrates naturalistic expression with grotesque elements to convey symbolic messages. By examining the visual horror and discomfort that characterize the grotesque aesthetic, the study explores their connection to voice acting and their specific applications within the work. Roland Barthes’s concepts of “relay” and “anchorage” are employed as methodological tools to examine how meaning is amplified, and the relationship between these processes and the artwork’s aesthetic components is further discussed. As a static comic text reborn as an animated medium, Beauty Water exhibits diverse modes of expression, including visual elements that provoke not merely shock but also artistic value, emotional catharsis, and commercial potential. Through an in-depth analysis of these grotesque elements, this study underscores the importance of reevaluating new possibilities for realistic dubbing. Furthermore, it opens avenues for future research on the application of grotesque aesthetics in animation and the correlations between animated works and dubbing, thus offering meaningful insights for both theoretical and practical fields. In addition, the grotesqueness inherent in the work of "Device Monster Plasticizer” can be discussed in more depth from the perspective of aesthetics from the meaning of Roland Barthe's "Reviewing Function” and "Restoration Function”. As mentioned earlier, the purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of grotesque aesthetics through realist animation works and to reveal how dubbing acting reinforces them. This study is meaningful in looking back on the meaning of grotesque as a value of aesthetics and reconsidering various values related to dubbing acting.

본 연구에서는 애니메이션에서 사실주의적인 특징을 살펴보고 작품의 그로테스크(Grotesque)한 미학이 더빙 연기로서 어떻게 구현될 수 있는지 논증하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. <기기괴괴 성형수>는 인간의 욕망과 상징적 이미지를 보여준 사실주의적 애니메이션이다. 이 작품은 사실주의 작품에서 일반적으로 추구하는 자연스러움과 그로테스크한 요소를 다양하게 적용하여 상징적 메시지를 전달한다는 특징이 있다. 본 연구에서 주목한 부분은 시각적 공포감이나 불쾌감같이 그로테스크한 미학들이 음성 연기와 연결되면서 작품에 적용되는 양상이다. 연구 방법으로서 롤랑 바르트의 ‘중계 기능’과 ‘정박 기능’ 개념을 통해 의미 전달을 증폭하는 과정을 연구하였고, 이를 바탕으로 작품의 미학적인 부분과 어떠한 연관성이 있는지 논해보았다. <기기괴괴 성형수>는 만화라는 정적인 텍스트가 동화(動畵)로 재탄생되면서 다양한 표현 감각을 보여준 작품이다. 작품에 접목된 시각적 불쾌함이나 기괴함은 단순한 자극적 장치가 아니라 예술적인 가치와 감성적 카타르시스를 제공하고 있으며 상업적인 성공 가능성도 시사한다. 따라서 <기기괴괴 성형수>에 나타난 그로테스크 미학에 관한 연구는 사실주의 더빙 연기의 다양한 가능성을 재고한다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 또한 그로테스크 미학이 적용된 작품 연구, 작품과 더빙의 연계성 연구 등을 재고한다는 가능성이 열려있다. 이러한 유의미함과 함께 본 연구는 실제 애니메이션 더빙 제작 현장에서 사실주의 음성 연기에 그로테스크 미학을 보강할 수 있는 새로운 시사점으로 제기될 수 있을 것이다. 더불어 롤랑 바르트의 ‘중계 기능’이나 ‘정박 기능’ 등의 의미로부터 <기기괴괴 성형수>작품에 내재한 그로테스크함을 미학의 관점에서 보다 깊이 있게 논할 수 있다. 앞서 언급한 바와 같이 본 연구의 목적은 사실주의적 애니메이션 작품을 통해서 그로테스크한 미학의 특징을 살펴보고 더빙 연기가 그것을 어떻게 강화하는지 밝혀보는 데에 있다. 본 연구는 미학의 한 가치로서 그로테스크의 의미를 돌아보고 더빙 연기와 연관된 다양한 가치를 재고한다는 데에 의미가 있다.
