This study aims to examine the achievements and meaning of the battle in Gangwon-do, focusing on Gerard Jurne's memoir. The battle that the French military was most proud of right after the Korean War was the Battle of the Ridge of the Commander in Yanggu, Gangwon-do. Through this, it was intended to highlight the achievements of the French military's battle in Gangwon-do and highlight its meaning. Private G. JOURNET suffered his first injury in the Battle of the Korean Twin Tunnels (TWIN-TUNNELS) on Feb. 1, 1951. He then suffered his second injury and was admitted to the U.S. hospital ship Constellation. Another injury occurred on Aug. 13, 1951, a third injury in the Punchbowl district, and after being admitted to the U.N. Forces Central Hospital in Tokyo (TOKIO), he was specially repatriated on Sept. 29, 1951. Journet Data-1 is a 49-item excerpt from Journet's journal that explained various aspects of the situation, including his war history. Journet Data-2 also gave an explanation of how the French battalion came to participate in the Korean War, and the Indochina and Algerian wars that the battalion participated in after the Korean War. Journet Data-3 is an increasingly systematic and rich compilation of Gerard's archives in this document. A lot of official documents and photos have been added to the existing journals and records. Journet Data-4 is a marching log of the 3rd Company of the French Battalion, written by Gerard Jurne. His records are the most detailed testimony left by a French veteran about the Korean War.

본고는 제라르 주르네의 회고록을 중심으로 강원도 지역에서의 전투 성과와 의미를 살피고자 한다. 프랑스군이 한국전쟁 직후 가장 자랑스럽게 여긴 전투 는 강원도 양구 ‘단장의 능선’ 전투였다. 이를 통해서 강원도 지역에서 벌인 프랑스군의 전투 성과를 부각시키고 의미를 부각시키고자 했다. 주르네(G. JOURNET) 이등병은 1951년 2월 1일, 한국 쌍터널(TWINTUNNELS) 전투에서 첫 번째 부상을 입었다. 그리고 두 번째 부상을 입어 미 병원선 ‘콘스텔레이션’에 입원했다. 또 세 번째 부상으로 1951년 8월 13일, 펀치볼(BOL) 지구에서 세 번째 부상을 입고 도쿄(TOKIO)의 유엔군 중앙 병원 에 입원한 후 1951년 9월 29일, 병원선 발루호(BALOU)를 타고 특별 송환되었 다. 주르네 1(Journet 자료-1)은 주르네의 일지에서 발췌한 49항목의 한국전쟁관련 기록으로서 자신의 참전사를 비롯하여 전황의 여러 국면을 설명했다. 주르 네 2(Journet 자료-2)는 프랑스대대가 어떻게 해서 한국전쟁에 참전하게 되었는 지, 한국전쟁 이후 대대가 참전한 인도차이나 전쟁과 알제리 전쟁도 설명하였다. 주르네 3(Journet 자료-3)은 제라르 주르네의 방대한 기록물이 이 문헌에서 점점 더 체계화되고 풍부하게 편집되어 있다. 기존의 일지 및 기록에 많은 공문, 사진 등이 첨가되어 있다. 김대중 전 대통령이 주르네에게 전한 감사의 편지, 미국 정부의 감사 편지 등도 후반부에 수록되어 있다. 주르네 4(Journet 자료-4)는 제라르 주르네가 작성한 프랑스대대 제3중대의 행군 일지이다. 1950년 10월 22일부터 1951년 4월 20일까지의 일지로 프랑스 오부르 훈련 기지에서부터 치열했던 쌍터널 전투까지 기록되어 있다. 그의 기록물은 한국전쟁에 관해 프랑 스 참전용사가 남긴 가장 세밀한 증언이라고 하겠다.
