The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of multicultural competence on the relationship between multicultural experiences and multicultural teaching efficacy among secondary pre-service teachers. A quantitative research method was employed through a survey targeting 278 secondary pre-service teachers. The specific findings and implications of the study are as follows. First, there were significant differences in the mean scores of multicultural competence by grade level, as well as multicultural experiences, multicultural competence, and multicultural teaching efficacy based on subject areas and the presence of multicultural friends or relatives among secondary pre-service teachers. Second, there were strong positive correlations among multicultural experiences, multicultural competence, and the components of multicultural teaching efficacy. Third, multicultural competence (overall), multicultural knowledge, multicultural skills, and multicultural attitudes showed partial mediating effects on the relationship between multicultural experiences and multicultural teaching efficacy. Therefore, it is recommended that teacher education programs provide direct and indirect multicultural experiences and systematic educational support to enhance the multicultural teaching efficacy of secondary pre-service teachers.

이 연구의 목적은 중등예비교사의 다문화 경험이 다문화 교수효능감에 미친 영향에 서 다문화 역량의 매개효과를 알아보는 것이다. 양적 연구방법인 설문조사를 실시하였 으며, 조사대상은 중등예비교사 278명이었다. 구체적인 연구 결론 및 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중등예비교사의 학년별 다문화 역량, 교과별 및 다문화 출신 친구나 친척 유무별 다문화 경험, 다문화 역량, 다문화 교수효능감은 집단 간 유의한 평균 차이가 있 었다. 둘째, 다문화 경험, 다문화 역량, 다문화 교수효능감의 구성요인 간에는 모두 높 은 정적 상관관계이었다. 셋째, 다문화 경험이 다문화 교수효능감에 미친 영향에서 다 문화 역량(전체), 다문화 지식, 다문화 기술, 다문화 태도는 부분매개의 효과가 있었다. 따라서 향후 사범대학은 중등예비교사들의 다문화 교수효능감 향상을 위하여 다문화 에 대한 직접 및 간접 경험 제공과 체계적인 교육적 지원이 요구된다.
