The purpose of this study is to examine the reality of the secondary school career leader teacher system and to seek ways to improve it by reflecting recent changes in school policies and school conditions. We recruited 34 individuals as research participants, including 15 career leader teachers and 19 non-career leader teachers (teachers, vice principals, and principals). The FGI was conducted five times. The results of the analysis and discussion are as follows. First, it is necessary to unify the title of ‘career leader teacher’ as in the teacher qualifications and clarify the role and identity of career leader teachers. Second, it is important to take into account the criteria reflecting the situation of every city and province for the location of career leader teachers. In addition, it is necessary to organize regulations related to the recruitment of temporary teachers. Third, it is imperative to actively consider the changes in the educational environment by city and province, as well as to publicize the discussion regarding the responsibilities and roles of career leader teachers. Fourth, ongoing attention and support are essential for the professional development of career leader teachers, specifically distinguishing each function required to enhance professionalism at both national and provincial levels. This study is noteworthy in that it can function as a foundational study for the theoretical investigation of career leader teachers in the future. However, this study was limited by the challenge of addressing each topic comprehensively due to the extensive range of concerns associated with the career leader teacher system.

본 연구는 중등 진로전담교사제도의 시행의 실제를 살펴보고 최근의 변화하는 학교 정책과 학교 여건을 반영한 개선 방향을 모색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 중등학교 진로전담교사 15인과 비전담교원(진로전담교사가 아닌 교사, 교감 및 교장) 19인, 총 34인을 연구참여자로 선정하여 다섯 차례에 걸쳐 FGI를 실시하였다. 분석 결과 및 논의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 진로‘전담’교사에 대한 명 칭을 교원자격검정령에 따른 표시과목과 일치시켜 ‘진로진학상담교사’로 변경하여 진로교사의 역할과 정체성에 대한 명료화가 필요하다. 둘째, 시도별 여건을 고려한 진로진학상담교사의 배치 기준에 대 한 고민이 필요하고 기간제 교사의 선발과 관련된 규정 정비도 고려할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 시도별 교육 환경 변화를 적극적으로 고려하여 진로진학상담교사의 직무와 역할에 대한 논의가 공론화될 필요 가 있다. 넷째, 진로진학상담교사의 전문성 계발을 위한 지속적인 관심과 지원이 필요하며 특히 국가 단위와 시도 단위에서 전문성 함양에 필요한 각각의 역할 구분이 필요하다. 본 연구는 향후 진로진 학상담교사에 대한 이론적 탐구에 기초가 될 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있으나, 진로진학상담교사 제 도와 관련된 방대한 쟁점 사항을 다루다 보니 각 주제에 대한 심도 있는 논의를 도출하는 데에는 한계가 있다.
