Purpose of Research: This study aims to analyze films based on theoretical discussions of loss and mourning, examining the pain and challenges of grieving experienced by individuals who have lost loved ones. By doing so, it seeks to emphasize the need for healthy mourning and highlights the role of the church in this process. Research Contents and Methods:The loss of a loved one disrupts daily life, threatening the well-being of the bereaved. Accordingly, this paper explores the meaning of mourning as a process of overcoming the ever-present threat of loss and the accompanying suffering. In particular, an in-depth analysis of the film The Son is conducted to examine the process of loss and mourning. Despite the challenges of personal grief, the narrative demonstrates the possibility of reconciliation and forgiveness instead of revenge in the context of relationships with offenders. Through this film’s unique case, the study considers how the church might approach wounded individuals facing daily crises due to various forms of loss, serving as a companion and guide in their journey of mourning. Results/Conclusions:As a setting for mourning, the church should become a space where the painful emotions associated with loss are acknowledged and expressed, enabling the sharing of grief. Ultimately, the church should provide a spiritual response to those in despair who cannot return to their pre-loss state. When the church fulfills this role, it will not serve merely as a one-directional place of petition to God but as a practical setting for cultivating and maintaining a social support network that empathizes with and tends to the suffering of its members

연구 목적 : 이 연구는 상실과 애도에 관한 이론적 논의를 기반으로 영화를 분석하고 사랑하는 대상을 상실한 인물들의 고통과 애도의 어려움에 대해 살펴봄으로써 건강한 애도의 필요성을 도출하고 이 과정에서 교회의 역할이 요구된다는 점을 밝히고자 한다. 연구 내용 및 방법 : 사랑하는 대상의 상실은 일상의 파국을 경유해 주체의 삶을 위협하고 있다. 이에 본고는 항시적으로 주체의 삶을 위협하는 상실과 그 고통을 극복하는 과정으로서 애도의 의미에 대해 살펴보았다. 특별히 영화 <아들> 분석을 통해 위의 상실과 애도의 과정에 대해 심층적으로 탐구하였다. 개인적 차원의 애도 과정이 어려움에도 불구하고 가해자와의 상호관계 속에서 복수 대신 화해와 용서의 가능성을 보여주기도 하는 영화의 서사를 통해 이 영화처럼 특수한 사례가 아니더라도 다양한 상실의 고통으로 인해 일상의 파국을 맞이하는 상처받은 존재에게 교회가 애도의 동반자이자 길잡이로 다가가는 방법을 모색하였다. 결론 및 제언 : 애도 현장으로서의 교회가 상실로 인한 고통스러운 감정을 인식하고 표현하는 장이 되어서 슬픔을 함께 나누어야 하고 궁극적으로 상실 이전의 상태로 회귀할 수 없다는 절망에 빠진 존재에게 신앙적인 답을 주어야 한다. 이러한 교회의 역할이 실천될 때, 교회는 하나님께 일방적으로 기복하는 공간이 아니라 성도들의 아픔을 헤아리고 보살피는 사회적 지지의 네트워크를 결성하고 운영하는 실천적 장으로 기능하게 될 것이다.
